With a gasp, I open my eyes and find myself back in the TARDIS. The Doctor lets out a yelp and spins in a circle. "What the hell is wrong with you dude?!" I try and shake off the discomfort from the tightness in my chest. "Energy transfer. When I grabbed the hat something got into my head," he grips his hair and lets his eyes widen. "The hat wasn't real! It was just a memory, you said it yourself," I said persistently. "What is it?! What's in my head?" He stops jumping and realization spreads across his face. "Of course!" He turns towards the console and starts flipping and twisting switches and knobs. "What?! What's happening?" The Doctor turns to me with an excited grin. "Coordinates! The hat transferred coordinates into my head!"
"Wha-"
The TARDIS engine comes to life and the room begins to shake.
----------------------------------------------
The TARDIS becomes still once again and I let go of the railing that I was gripping. The Doctor rushes over and I feel him grip my hand. "What are you doing?!"
The Doctor runs to the door with me in tow and places his free hand on the door handle. "We don't even know what's out there," I say worryingly. "That makes it all the more fun," he grins at me before pushing open the door, and the smell of gasoline rushes in.
"Why do I always start off my day like this?" I mumble. We stare at the multiple gun barrels that stood pointed at our head. The men behind the guns sported ragged clothing with worn out boots that complemented their scowling faces. "Step out of the box," one of the men growled. "Do as he says," I hear the Doctor whisper. I feel his hand slip away from mine, and my anxiety finally kicks in, as expected. We slowly walk away from the TARDIS and I hear the Doctor close the door behind us. I suddenly feel small as I realize where we were. "Are...are we in a -"
"Pirate ship," the Doctor finishes. "Well I was gonna say space boat but okay." I peered at the giant mast that stood proudly above us. The sails that stood by the mast were no ordinary sails. I could see right through them, the only thing indicating it was there was the faint purple line on the edges. It was as if they were almost invisible. Beyond the mast and sails, lay the sky. It was all black, with nothing but stars to illuminate it. "Would my guess be too far-fetched if I said those were pirates," I gestured towards the men in front of us. "Nope," the Doctor said, popping the P the end. "Who are you?" A gruff voice came from the pirate right in front of us. "I'm the Doctor. Nice to meet you, and this is my colleague Clarke," he said in a cheerful matter. I felt a small discomfort at the sound of my alias. I liked hearing my real name better. "How'd you find us?" The same man asks. "Oh uh, we were just uh cruising along the...space waves?" The Doctor trails off. Really? Space waves?
"And who dares to intrude upon my ship?" A loud voice bellows through the air and I look up to see a large man stand proudly on the raised level of the boat, resting his arms on the large wooden steering wheel. The man's chiseled figure made its way down the stairs that led down to the level we were on. His attire was in a better condition that the clothes of the crew and his boots were obviously new, with a futuristic look to them. He made his way through the small crowd of men until he stood in front of us. His dark eyes immediately train themselves on us, sending an uneasy feeling through me. His lips twist into a smirk as he scans us up and down. "By any chance, do you happen to be the captain of this ship?" the Doctors inquires. The man, who I assumed was the captain, looked at us for one more moment before giving us a small chuckle. "Obviously. Call me Captain Rodgers," the man pauses and turns to me. "Well, it was nice meeting you captain, but we're really in a hurry if you don't mind," the amusement falters in the Doctors voice. "What's the hurry? Stay a while," the Captain winks at me. I feel my face grow hot with both embarrassment and anger. I couldn't really decide which.
"I really think we should get going," I feel the Doctors fingers intertwine with mine. I see the Captain's arm lurch towards mine and his calloused hand rips my wrist away from the Doctors grasp. "I think that's going to be a problem mate," the Captain growls. "My ship, my rules," the Captain says with a twisted smile. "You let her go right now," the Doctor demanded. I feel my pulse rise and panic start to spread through me. The Captain yanks me towards him and I stumble into his chest, catching a whiff of the filthy scent that emitted from his shirt. "You need to shower buddy," I mumble. "Take him to the cage. And I want men working to tear this lump of wood apart!"
A man came up to the Doctor and gripped the collar of his coat. "Clark, you'll be fine don't worry," the man began to drag the Doctor away from me and the TARDIS. "Wait!" I start to panic as I feel a tug on my wrist. The Captain drags me away from the TARDIS and I watch as me and the Doctor get pulled in opposite directions. "Open door five," the captains' gruff voice barks and I hear air hiss. My head snaps around and I see that under the platform, a metal door had opened, and the interior stood with wires running along the walls. "Close door five," I say frantically. "Shut up," he huffs, and with a strong pull, he throws me inside the corridor, the cold air immediately biting through my clothes, and into my skin.
