"Clarke?", the door to the bathroom opened and from my spot on the floor, I could see Rose rush over to me. "Oh my god," Rose crouched on the floor. "What happened?" I wiped warm tears away from my face and looked her straight in the eyes. "I'm fine. I just like hanging out on the floor. It's a defense mechanism," I grumble. "I just had a panic attack, I think. I'm okay," I used the sink to pull myself up. "Are you sure?", Rose put a hand on my shoulder and tried to steady me. "Yeah," I regained my balance and stood without the help of the sink. "Don't tell anyone," I pleaded. Rose slowly nodded at my request, and I turned to splash water on my face to rid myself of the warm tears that streaked my face.

We walked out of the bathroom, acting like nothing had ever happened, only that it was time to go and Rose had gone to let me know. While Mickey, Sarah, and Rose went to put K-9 back in the trunk of her car, the Doctor and I stood out on the street to wait for them to get back. Still a little weak from my episode in the bathroom, I was glad to be able to stand outside in the fresh air. "So, how many girlfriends have you had?" I say in a joking matter, trying to control my trembling voice. The Doctor chuckles to himself and shakes his head. "Does it matter?" he asks. "Not to me," I shrug. "But it does to Rose," I give him a knowing look and he lets out a heavy sigh. "I think she likes you," I feel a nagging feeling in my gut, the same one I got when I was alone in the streets, trying to pull off another job. "She doesn't need me. She has Mickey," he points out. We stand in silence for a moment, appreciating the quiet nature of the street. "Do you leave everyone that travels with you?" I say quietly. His face falls and he gives me a solemn look. "No. Sometimes they leave. Sometimes they die," he states. "I bet as soon as you get the chance, you'll ditch me," I chuckle. "No, not you," his lips turned into a small smile as he gazed at me. I feel my face grow hot and I look away, pretending to admire the street. "It's a curse that I have," he says. "What is?" I look at him again. "You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can't spend the rest of mine with you. I have to live on. Alone. That's the curse of the Time Lords. I don't age. I regenerate. But humans decay. You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone who you...," he trails off and stares off into the street.
"Yeah. It must suck," I say softly. A screech comes from over our heads and I look up to see a dark looming figure rushing towards us. The Doctor lays a hand on my back and pushes me down as the figure speeds over our heads. "What the hell was that?!" I exclaim. "Zombie bat."

The next morning, we stand outside the school and watch the kids file through the front door while talking and giggling, oblivious as to what was really going on. The Doctor had spent time explaining to me that the "Zombie Bats" were in fact Krillitane. He also informed me that the fries they were giving the children made them into geniuses, which made me think of how I could have benefitted from eating those chips when I was in school. "Rose, Sarah, and Clarke, you go to the Maths room. Crack open those computers, I need to see the hardware inside. Here, you might need this," the Doctor pulls out his sonic screwdriver and hands it to Sarah, leaving Rose with a hurt expression on her face. "Mickey, I want you on surveillance," Sarah tosses Mickey the car keys, earning a disappointed look from Mickey. "Where are you going?" I question. "It's time I had a word with Mr. Finch," the Doctor deadpans.
I stand in the corner of the computer filled room while Sarah and Rose bicker over the sonic screwdriver, and feel like ripping my ears out. "Could you just stop arguing and just open the damn thing?" the two ignore me as they continue to throw snarky remarks back and forth. I throw my hands up in the air in defeat and lightly hit the back of my head against the wall.
