Chapter 19

The shrill sound of a cell phone screaming was what woke Kris from a dead sleep. Lifting her head from where it had been buried beneath the pillow, she wiped the trail of drool from her chin and reached blindly for her phone on the night stand. She glanced down in time to see Russo's number flashing across the screen. Noticing it was six thirty in the morning, she growled as she hit accept and lifted the phone to her ear.

"Do you know what time it is?" Kris said by way of greeting.

"Of course I do. You have to work today don't you?" Russo responded with a laugh.

"Yes, but I don't have to be in until nine. Which means I should still be sleeping for another hour and a half." Kris grumbled as she climbed out of bed and headed to the kitchen.

"Don't mess with a woman and her sleep, I get it." Russo replied sarcastically.

Kris flipped the kitchen light on and grabbed a K-cup from the cabinet and put it in the Keurig. "Damn skippy bud, especially when said woman is supposed to go out with you tonight."

"Yeah, that's why I called actually. I wanted to let you know that I'll pick you up around seven tonight." Russo replied, sounding a bit breathless.

"You sound a little... Hey, you better not be doing what I think you're doing!" Kris said as she grabbed a coffee cup from the dish rack.

"I like where your mind is, but no I'm not doing that." Russo let out a laugh.

"Okay then. Hey, why are you up so early anyway when you don't have an active case?" Kris asked as she opened the fridge to pull out her Churro Caramel coffee creamer.

"Exercise sweetness. Despite what you may think, God did not just magically give me this body." Russo replied and Kris could hear the smugness in his voice.

Kris rolled her eyes as she made her way back to her room. "Yeah, I hear ya. So, where are we going anyway?"

"Oh, no. It's a surprise. Just dress nice though, no Chucks allowed tonight." Russo replied.

"Well then, you'll be pleased to know that Kate is going to help me get ready tonight... She just doesn't know it yet." Kris replied with a grin as she walked into her closet.

"Good luck with that. I'm gonna go finish my workout. Sorry I woke you up so early, sweetness." Russo replied.

"Ah, I guess I can forgive you. I'll let you make it up to me tonight." Kris replied with a grin.

"Oh trust me, I will be more than happy to make it up to you in any way you see fit." Russo replied excitedly.

"With dinner, perv. I meant you can make it up to me with dinner." Kris replied with a chuckle.

"Hey, a guy can dream right? Anyway, see ya at work sweetness." Russo replied, hanging up before Kris could say anything else.

Kris exited the closet with the dark wash jeans and Doctor Who shirt she picked out, placing them on her bed and then went to start her shower. Sending Kate a quick text since she knew she would be up, Kris then hopped in the shower to get ready for the long day ahead.

Kate heard the phone go off while she was in the en suite doing her hair. Castle was still asleep so she made her way out of the bathroom and grabbed her phone from the charger and read the text as she headed back to do her makeup. Seeing the text that Kris would be over in thirty minutes, Kate decided to get Castle up so he wouldn't come into the kitchen in his underwear.

"Rick, wake up babe." Kate gently nudged Castle's shoulder. The only response she got was him rolling over and burying his head underneath her pillow.
