When Kris got back to her apartment, she put her phone on charge and decided on a quick shower. After scrubbing her body and her hair clean, she quickly dried off and plugged up her hair straightener. Going to her closet, she opted for something other than her usual graphic t-shirt. Pulling on a red cable knit sweater with black skinny jeans, she went back into the bathroom to do her hair and makeup. Blasting Spotify on her phone, she straightened her hair and applied a minimal amount of makeup and lip gloss. When she was finished, she made her way into the living room to grab her phone and keys. Seeing the notification light blinking, she unlocked her phone to find a text from Kate.
Don't worry sis, everything will be fine. Just be honest and don't hold back. Love you!
Kris typed a quick reply back to her sister, silently thanking Kate for giving her a burst of confidence. She knew what she had to tell Russo was heavy stuff and she was terrified of the outcome but she also knew that she couldn't hold it in any longer. Opening up to Kate and Castle had given her a sense of freedom she hadn't experienced since before she met Nikolai Pavlov so many years ago. Texting Russo to let him know she was on her way over, she pulled on her red Converse, grabbed her keys and black leather jacket then headed out the door.
Castle was setting the table for two when Kate emerged from the bedroom, freshly showered. He stopped what he was doing to watch her as she made her way to the living room to grab her phone from the coffee table. Watching her chuckle as she looked at the screen clued him in that she must be reading a text from Kris. He was in awe of her, dressed simply in a purple long sleeve shirt and black yoga pants; hair up in a messy bun and barefoot.
She finally looked up from her phone to notice him watching her, a bright smile breaking across her face. Laying her phone back down, she headed toward him. He finally shook his head as if to clear it and finished placing the silverware on the table.
"See something you like, Castle?" Kate gave him a playful look.
"Always." Castle simply replied with a grin before turning to head back into the kitchen.
"What's all this?" Kate gestured to the table.
"Well my dear fiancee." Castle said as he approached the table with a bowl of spaghetti and another bowl filled with salad. "Mother is at her studio and Alexis is at a study group, so I figured the two of us could enjoy a quiet night in together without any distractions for a few hours."
"Sounds like a plan to me." Kate smiled as she took her seat at the table beside Castle.
"So, have you heard from Kris?" Castle asked as he poured a glass of wine for Kate and then one for himself.
"I sent her a text before I took a shower and she replied back that she was on her way over to Russo's and if she ended up becoming single tonight that she was coming over here and drinking all of our alcohol." Kate replied with a chuckle as she dug into her salad.
"I wouldn't doubt that in the least. I don't think she has anything to worry about, though. Russo seems like a pretty understanding guy." Castle said before taking a drink of his wine.
"We'll see in a few hours I guess." Kate shrugged in response.
"That we will, indeed." Castle smiled, clinking glasses with Kate.
When Kris parked her Prius in front of Russo's building, she sat in the car for several minutes giving herself a pep talk. When she finally looked up and saw Russo standing with the door to his apartment open, she knew it was sink or swim. Taking a deep breath, she killed the engine and finally got out of the car.
"Hey baby." Russo greeted her with a smile.
"Hey." Kris answered as she climbed the steps and gave him a small kiss. She then reached over to pet Leia, who had also greeted her at the door.
