What Started It All.

Chapter 4:

Paige's P.O.V

Everyone is worried about me. I don't see why. I've lasted this on my own before. I can see why Tj was worried. He has been ever since the apocalypse. Ever since Hope took her life. Me and Mitch aren't really talking much since our fight last night. I wish he'd just try to let it go like the rest of us are. None of us wanted that to happen to Hope. "Mitch thank you for watching out for me this morning." I tell him. "Yeah. Right." He snaps back at me then walks out of the room. I don't see why he's still mad at me. I guess I just messed up by not saving them both. I knew I should have threw them both inside. I start crying because I knew that I was a horrible mom to them to. "What's wrong babe?" Tj asks. "I should have saved them both.. I shouldn't of let go of Hope. I'm a terrible mom, honey. Just terrible." I reply back to him. "Baby, that wasn't your fault. Hope was bit before you ran out there. You had no choice but to grab him first." He says back. He's always taking up for me. He tells me when I'm wrong or right. I respect my husband 100%. "I didn't wake you up this morning because you were sleeping so well, honey. You haven't got sleep in three days. You slept so peacefully. I couldn't wake you up. Plus, I think Mitch needed a father to son talk. Y'know? He needs you. I couldn't take you out there and risk your life. Look what happened to me when I went out there today. I ended up getting hurt. Just imagine what would have happened if you were out there." I say to him. "I do. I just want you to be careful. These girls would be lost without their mom. If I was out there with you, I could have helped you. You would have never got hurt if I was up and went with you." He says back to me. I don't know what I would do without him.

I walk up to Luke and Maddi's room to check on them and the baby. "Mom!!" Luke gets up and hugs me. Tj warns Maddi that I was hurt. She didn't listen, but she didn't ease down. But I didn't mind. I liked being missed. "Tomorrow we are to go to the shooting range and teach you two how to shoot. we need to teach Nikki to shoot a pistol. She's only 10, but she can do it. We got a deal? We leave here at 6 am. The walkers will be on the other side of town when we're at the range. We should be able to in there and out as soon as we all learn how to shoot the guns we choose. Got it?" I demand. "Got it." They all say. Now we gotta break the news to Nikki. Tj is finally letting me walk on my own. Me and him are walking down the hallway and he stops me. "I need to let you know something. But it doesn't involve talking." He says. I'm standing here wondering what were standing here for. Then he slowly leans in and kisses me. I kissed him back softly. His lips are so damn soft. I'm glad I have him in my life. He's all I ever wanted. Then, out of nowhere, I start getting this video of me and him and our loving family. We stood there for about 10 minutes making out. The video ended about a minute before I let the kiss go. I looked him in the eyes and said, "I love you too. Nothing will ever happen to me. I promise you." I see tears in his eyes and he says, "I sure hope not. I just want us all to be safe." I've never seen him care for anyone this much. I guess I lit a spark into him. We walk into Nikki's room and I say, "Honey, you're gonna learn how to shoot." She's now speechless. She has no idea what to say or do. "I- I am? Am I even ready?" She asks. "Nikki, you were born ready. We are going to be leaving Bourbon soon. We're gonna head to Sullivan in about three months. We have a shooting range to set up in Cuba tomorrow at 6am. The walkers will be on the other side of town. We should be fine." I tell her. "Who is watching Audrey and Jamie? " She quickly asks. "I'm not sure. I guess if Maddi doesn't feel like shooting tomorrow, she can?" I say quietly back to her. "Now get some rest. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow. Goodnight, love you." I tell her. She says, "Love you too, mom. Goodnight dad." Tj speaks back to her, "Goodnight baby."
