The old wooden boards creaked as she walked towards him.
He smiled and she sat on the bench beside him.
In silence, they watched the waves crash against the shoreline.
The silence was comforting, but he wondered about her situation.
He tried to look for new bruises, but her body was covered.
"I see what you're doing." She laughed. "It's over, he's gone now."
"Oh." He smiled with relief.
And then she did the simplest thing in the world.
She leaned over and kissed him.
