Chapter 27

Heart. Beats. Fast.

Everything slowed around Gracie. She was the only thing moving as time froze around her. Standing, Gracie moved to the Grimm and studied it. Click.

Everything moved a foot, like a picture from a shudder camera. She quickly got to work using her dagger to cut at the throat of the beast. Once satistfied with the damage, she walked down its arm to the pinned Ren and Nora, stabbing the creature a few times another click happened. The creature had to have jerked because its arm was no longer under Gracie's feet.

Colors and Promises.

She fell to the ground, allowing time to regain itself, just for a second before she stopped it again.

Getting out her scroll, Gracie began a video. Once finished, she put the scroll in Ruby's pocket and returned to where she was at and resuming time.

How to be brave.

Screaming from the beast as it found its new wounds, yelling from Ren and Nora as they fell, and silence. The creature turned its head to Gracie who was smiling up at it, her smile more of a grimace of pain.

"Gracie, move!" Someone shouted.

How can I love when I'm afraid to fall.

One hit was all it took for the young huntress to go limp. A satisfied screech came from the beast as it turned its attention to the others.

Ren, Ruby, Jaune, and Nora worked together to take it down before running to Gracie.

But watching you stand alone...

"Gracie, wake up. Come on, we're almost there." Ruby kneeled.

"There are ships incoming." Ren pointed out the ships attempting to land.

All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow.

"Over here!" Nora waved her arms at the passengers who quickly exited the ship, coming towards them.

The workers had food, water, and first aid with them as they began trying to help Gracie and the others.

One step closer.

"Jerry, call in the healers. If we don't..." One worker held Gracie's wrist, feeling the pulse.

"Sam, you shouldn't give these kids false hope. I'm sorry. But we don't have a healer with us and by the time we get to back, it will be too late." Jerry spoke to the worker and the others.

I have died everyday waiting for you.

"Please, Gracie. We are going to find your dad and you'll get to have a real Christmas with him." Ruby had Gracie's colding hand in hers.

A small cough from the worker suggested they should say goodbye and quickly before more Grimm appear.

Darling don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years.

Jaune, Ren, and Nora kept their goodbyes short and sweet where as Ruby sniffed.

"Gracie, I'm sorry, I didn't want to loose another friend. Please. Do something and prove to these guys that you'll make it."

I'll love you for a thousand more.

Gracie opened her cloudy eyes and smiled at the others. She reached her hand up and pat Ruby's pocket before putting both arms behind her head and crossing her legs. Her eyes closed first before shortly followed by her ears and relaxing of all the muscles in her body.

Ruby reached into her pocket and pulled out the scroll. "It's Gracie's."
