Chapter Nineteen

It couldn't be possible. How on earth would it be possible for Jimin to get weak so fast? Jungkook wondered. He sat on the bed with his arms wrapped around Jimin who cried in his chest and took short recovering breaths. Jungkook stared blankly off in the distance. He stroked the red hairs of the mermaid and pressed soft, comforting kisses on his head. He tried to calm Jimin down, he really did, but the boy was so scared. He clenched the white T-shirt of Jungkook in his fists and it broke the heart of him to see the mermaid so sad and hopeless. He loved Jimin's happiness and he had missed it since Jimin got sick. When he was still healthy, Jimin was always smiling and carefree. He loved to happily walk hand in hand with Jungkook, but look at him now. Jimin couldn't even stand on his feet anymore. Jungkook noticed Jimin had stopped crying, so he slowly pulled the boy away from his chest and looked down at him. Jimin looked up at him, his dark brown eyes weren't shining with joy like they always used to. The red-haired boy shifted on the bed with his upperbody and then he leaned in with his lips to the pair of Jungkook, the human boy smiled a little when he knew what Jimin was doing. ''Kiss me, you fool.'' The black-haired boy said and leaned in, the tips of their noses touching. ''You're the definition of true love.'' Jimin whispered and pressed his lips on those of Jungkook. He held his hands on Jungkook's chest while he craved for love and attention. Love is what connected them. Their love for each other was so strong, so meaningful. Jimin eventually ended the kiss and lowered his head. ''I'll miss this.'' Is what he simply said. Jungkook slightly nodded, understanding what Jimin meant. ''Let's enjoy it while it lasts, okay?'' Jungkook muttered and pressed soft kisses on the tip of Jimin's nose. The mermaid nodded, but it still bugged him.

Jungkook carried Jimin in his arms, bridal style, and roamed around in the house to find some food for the hungry mermaid. ''If you puke on me, I swear to god that I'll drop you on the floor.'' Jungkook said and Jimin smiled. It seemed like jokes lightened up the mood a little. ''I can't promise.'' Jimin answered and nuzzled his head against Jungkook's shoulder. Jungkook found a box of cookies on the shelf in the kitchen and ordered Jimin to get it, because the black-haired boy held the mermaid in his arms and literally had his hands full. Jimin did as he was told and got a cookie out of the box, after that he put the plastic cookie box back on the shelf. Jungkook carried Jimin to the living room and softly laid him down on the couch. He turned on the TV for the mermaid and walked away to the backyard while he got his phone out of his pocket. His mind said no, but his heart said yes. Jungkook texted Taehyung, they were still best friends and believe it or not, but Jungkook had furiously walked away from Taehyung so much times that he lost count. Jungkook wasn't the best with his emotions and he wasn't an extrovert like his best friend, so they had fights before. It weren't really fights, more like serious discussions. Jungkook was always the one who would walk away from the situation when it got too heated, while Taehyung stayed and put his foot down. He could be really stubborn and it had irritated Jungkook countless of times. But they were best friends, because even though they had their differences, they're still the same at heart. They have always been there for each other. Taehyung gave Jungkook a shoulder to cry on when he felt unhappy all the time and Jungkook comforted Taehyung when his boyfriend Baekhyun broke up with him. Taehyung had lots of boyfriends before, but he felt like Baekhyun was the right guy for him, so he was really heartbroken when Baekhyun broke up with him. Jungkook focused on the text he was about to send to his best friend. I'm sorry for today, I was acting like an asshole. It's just that the topic of Jimin leaving makes me emotional and it's difficult to talk about it, because I know it's going to happen really soon. I'm keeping him here for now, it's the best for him. I need to spend time with him in order to say goodbye. Jimin means the world to me. Jungkook hit the send button with his thumb and put his phone in his pocket again. He stood in the backyard and stared at the flat surface of the blue shiny water in the swimming pool. Jimin loved swimming in the pool, but now he was too weak. He couldn't do much, because he would get easily exhausted. Jimin's health was a mess and Jungkook felt awful for the fact that Jimin was so horribly sick. He breathed in the fresh salty sea air and focused on the sounds of the ocean he could hear from a distance. The sounds of the waves smashing onto the rocks sounded like the ocean was calling out for Jimin, wondering where he was and why he took so long to come back. Jungkook wondered if that's what Jimin's mermaid friends thought. Were they concerned, because Jimin was staying on land for so long? What if they thought he was dead? No, Jungkook quickly shook his head, that was stupid of him to even think of. Jimin's hyungs knew he would return, right? Jungkook felt bad for them. They were always with the three of them and were only used to being with each other, so when one leaves, it would feel awfully lonely. Jimin was the youngest of the three mermaids, he had told Jungkook about that aswell. Jungkook felt sympathy for Seokjin and Hoseok, because their youngest 'brother' was gone for a long time and as the older ones, they would feel even more concerned. Jungkook cared well for Jimin, not only because he loved him so much, but also because he felt that he had promised Jimin's hyungs to take good care of their 'little brother'. That he fed him, gave him rest, helped him with taking his medicine. But most importantly that he loved him. And their shared love would continue, even when Jimin would go back, what was sooner than Jungkook hoped.
