I wake up to screaming and jump out of bed. I trip over a shoe but catch myself on my door as I swing it open and rush down the hall into Emily's room.
"Emily, wake up," I say sternly as I crouch down next to her bed.
"Emily, Emily." She gasps as she sits straight up and throw her arms in front of her as I catch them.
"Hey hey, it's me, Emmy. I'm here, I'm right here." She looks around the room before she stares at me. She nods slowly and relaxes before she throws herself at me. I envelope her in my arms and shh her holding her tight.
"You're okay," I repeat to her as I hear footsteps out in the hall. I look up to see Harry and Gemma standing side by side at the door frame and Niall standing behind them in the window of them.
"I'm sorry," I mouth and Harry shakes his head as Gemma waves her hand. I nod and they give me a small smile before leaving and leaving Niall being the only one at the door.
I continue to rock her back and forth softly as I whisper calming words to her. She soon feels heavy and I know she's fallen asleep by the sound of her calm breathing. I slowly and softly lean her down and place her stuffed animals under her arms. I pull her blankets over her and lean down giving her a long kiss on her forehead as a tear slips and falls into her hair. I wipe my hand over in and sniffle. I stand and make my way into the hallway. I grab Niall's hand and pull him into my room. He closes the door and it clicks when it's in place and I continue to drag him to my bed. I crawl in, still holding his hand. Once I know he's on the bed and has enough room, I lay my head on his chest and begin to softly cry. He rubs my hair as I fist his soft tee-shirt under my hands. I gasp as I begin to cry harder. I push myself up onto him. I lay on him crying as he continues to rub my hair calmingly.
"You okay, babe?" I shrug and he kisses my forehead.
"It just scares me. She used to have night terrors every night. Sometimes I'd have to stay up with her the rest of the night, it just worries and scares me." He nods and kisses my forehead again.
"Get some sleep, baby. I'll be here if you need me." I nod and kiss his upper chest that's peeking out from his shirt.
I roll over and cuddle into Niall's side. He throws his arm over me and pulls me closer to him.
"Did you sleep well, love?" He asks, his voice heavily raspy.
"Mhh," I hum. "Did you?"
"Yeah," he yawns and rolls onto his side to face me. "Should we enroll Emily in pre-k?"
"Uhm, I mean I never thought about it but I guess so. Where did that come from?"
"I don't know, I just thought about it."
"Yeah, we can. But it's almost March, do you think they would accept her?"
"Well I mean once they know the situation I'm sure they'll accept her, you know?"
"Yeah," I tell him softly. I untangle myself from his arms and sit up twisting around to crack my back.
"Ew. Doesn't that hurt?" He asks rubbing his hand over my back.
"Not really, feels good to be honest." He nods and slips out of bed. I follow his actions and make my way down the stairs as Niall heads towards the bathroom. My warm sock feet hit the cold ground and I shiver running my hands over my arms. I enter the kitchen to see Harry and Gemma sitting at the table with Emily on Harry's lap. Gemma is reading a book and Emily and Harry are eating from two separate bowls.
"Good morning, Violet," Harry greets as Emily lifts her spoon and drops oatmeal on Harry's crotch. I giggle as she turns bright red from embarrassment.
"I'm sowwy, Hawry," she says softly.
"It's okay, hun," he tells her wiping it away with a napkin. She goes back to slurping her oatmeal and I grab an apple of the counter and take a bite.
"This morning Niall mentioned enrolling Emily in pre-k, which may be a little odd for her and the staff since it's mid-year, but do you think we could do it?"
"Oh I'm sure, is there any place you have a preferring to?"
"I haven't looked into them, but I will today." Harry nods and Gemma gives me a smile. Emily continues to eat her oatmeal. I grab a bowl and fill it with cereal and then pick up the milk from the table and fill my bowl up half way.
I grab a spoon from the drawer and begin to eat my fruity pebbles. I hear footsteps coming from the stairs and Niall soon enters the kitchen.
"'Mornin," he greets. Harry and Gemma course a good morning and Emily smiles and reaches her arms for him. He goes behind Harry and lifts Emily up from his lap and onto his hip. She attempts to grab his chin hair and he laughs.
"There's not enough hair there, hun." She smiles and reaches for his chest hair peeking out from above his shirt.
"Ow," he says taking his free hand and rubbing the spot.
"Hee, ow," Emily says with a giggle. Harry and Gemma finish their breakfast and I soon do to.
"I'm going to go up and search for some schools for Em, can you handle her?" I ask. He smiles and puts his finger under her chin and lifts it up to look her in the eyes.
"Does coloring sound fun to you?"
"Yeah!" She shouts with a smile. I plant a short kiss on his cheek and then one on his lips. Emily takes her two little hands and pushes our faces away from each other.
"That's gross, that's cooties." Niall belts out a laugh and I nearly choke.
"Yes, Emily, kissing has cooties, so don't be kissing any boys!" I tell her. I smile and kiss her on the forehead before making my way up the stairs and into my room closing the door.
I grab my laptop and plop down on my bed. I open it up and power it on. I quickly log in and check my email before searching for some pre-schools in the area. As I'm scrolling through one of the websites, an email pops up in the bottom right hand corner.
"Dear students, due to the recent births of my twin girls, they're entirely identical so it is quite difficult to tell them apart for the time being, I have decided to cancel the rest of this class. As a final assignment, I have assigned an essay to be written on the book, The Catcher in the Rye, as well as a narrative essay. Some essay topics are in the course. The instructions are on the homepage of the course on BlackBoard. Good luck."
I squeal at the sudden news and quickly open up a new tab. Clicking into my bookmarks and hovering my mouse over the course and open it up. I read over the instructions whilst nodding my head. I exit out of the course and back to looking for pre-schools for Emily.
I pick up my phone from under my leg and dial up Niall's number.
"Yeah, babe?"
"Hey, I think I've found some nice schools that have affordable prices. Also, you won't believe what just happened."
"Well, what happened?"
"My professor just cancelled the rest of the semester of the class!" I exclaim giddily.
"Really? Why?"
"His wife just had her babies apparently so he decided to end the class with an essay on The Catcher in the Rye, and a narrative essay," I tell him placing the phone in between my ear and shoulder as I continue to scroll through the pages pulled up on my laptop.
"That's great babe! So you still get like full credit, right?"
"Oh, yeah, we do. I'm going to come down and show you guys what I found, I'll see you in a sec, love you."
"Love you too, baby."
