Bookmark never really belonged in her environment. At school and at home she was the smartest one there. No one could be compare to her with her smarts. This made her kind of lonely considering that she didn't have a group to talk about homework or anyone except the teachers to help her. Even her parents were clueless. The school tried to transfer her to a better school, but her parents would reject it. All of Bookmark's siblings went to the school, so it would waste more time to drop Bookmark to a different school. She never really hung out with her siblings because they were twins. They stuck together like glue and had each other. Bookmark would always feel like the third wheel when she was with them. She would always hang out in the library. She felt like she belonged in there.

"Class. We have a new transfer student. You can sit next to Bookmark."

"Hey. What do we do in this class?"

No one asks this question. Only Bookmark did. But the new kid did.

"Oh. We just normally write journal entries and sometimes lectures."

"Cool. Thanks... Bookmark. Did I get your name right?"

"Yeah. You did."

They became best friends. A pair. They had the same classes too. They were the top two students on everything. They never competed. They helped each other improve and succeed. Until, her pair died in a car accident.

"One day we're going to have a great life. Away from the weird people. We belong somewhere."

That's what her pair always said. And Bookmark wanted to live up to that.

She was walking down the road when a flier fell in front of her.

"I can get away from here if I sign up."

And she signed up. Just like that.

"I can belong. I just know it."
