Annie's POV:
I hop off the bus, squeezing Hayden's hand excitedly as everyone else follows. My parents give me yet another look, but I ignore them completely and keep my hand in Hayden's. We start walking up the widening trail around the talk mountain, surprising arriving at the cliff in just 15 minutes.
We all hurriedly take off our extra clothing, ready to swim in the cold water already. The walk up here was silent, awkward, and tiring, so we're ready to relax.
"Race you to the top." I tease Hayden, trying my best not to let my fear get the best of me. It's not that I'm terrified of heights; I'm just scared that I'll get hurt at the bottom.
I run as fast as I can barefoot through the small dirt trail leading up to the jumping spot, careful not the trip on tree roots or rocks. Hayden is close behind me, but I win.
I pant as we reach the top, and I hesitantly look down at the bottom. Hayley is swimming already, and she looks like just a little dot from up here. My nervousness kicks in, and I step back in fear of falling over.
"You ready?" Hayden asks, standing beside me. I shake my head.
"You can do it. It's safe, there's lots of water to break your fall. Besides, I'll be there too." He reminds me. I take a deep breath, grabbing his hand again. I close my eyes, and we run off the cliff.
I shriek as I feel myself falling down, and gasp when we reach the cold water with a splash. I laugh nervously when I come above water.
Everybody claps at our bravery, the next group heading up the trail to jump. I find Hayden, who is rushed with adrenaline.
"Let's do it again!" He says excitedly. I chuckle as I follow after him to jump again.
We repeat the same routine for what feels like hours; go up, get nervous, pep talk, jump, laugh, repeat. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but being with Hayden who does everything over and over 100s of times, it's tiring.
"I need a break." I pant as we get out of the water after a jump. He nods, sitting in the shallower part with me. We watch as everyone else works up the courage to jump off again.
"This is better. I feel like we can be open now." Hayden grins, giving me a peck on the cheek. I blush, because he's never really kissed me in front of our families yet, whether it be on the cheek or lips.
I push away my parents stares by giving him a quick kiss on his lips. He chuckles, knowing what I'm doing.
"You're adorable." He says to himself, although I hear him. I lay my head on his shoulder as we watch our families have fun.Hayden's POV:
"Wanna go for a walk?" I asks Annie after a while of sitting in the water. She nods her head, and we stand up.
"We're gonna go explore a little. Be back soon." She says to her parents. They give us a look, but let us go. I wish they would just talk to us, instead of staring at us all day.
I speed up to catch up with Annie, who has started venturing the trail branching off from the cliff. The green forest slowly starts becoming surrounded by rock.
"A cave!" Annie says, pointing excitedly. I hesitantly follow her to the small cave, ducking as I enter. I'm shocked by what I see.
A pool of turquoise water had been planted into the ground, shining bright from the sunlight coming I from the other side, which is exposed. There's even a few cracked rocks, revealing crystallized rock inside. It's beautiful.
She giggles, sitting at the edge and letting her feet dangle in the pool. While she takes a more delicate approach, I jump right in, splashing her with the salty water.
"I think this leads to the ocean." I say, sputtering from the salty taste that made its way in my mouth. She slides into the pool, letting out an adorable laugh when she splashes me. I keep myself afloat, watching her grin as she searches around the small pool of water. I surprise her, giving her a kiss to remind her I love her. It's in moments like this when I really step back and realize what a big part of my life she is.
She blushes, sitting up on the sandy edge. She pull me up next to her, watching the reflection of the crystals bounce off the walls.
This time, she surprised me, pressing her body against mine as she kisses me. I rest a hand in her wavy beach hair, holding her close to me. She shuffles closer to me, and I can feel her smiling as she makes out with me.
"We should get back." I chuckle, stopping before we go too far. She agrees, and we start the short walk back to our families.
"Finally! Time to go, hurry up!" Rush chuckles, running back into the bus. I race Annie to the bus, and we laugh like 5th graders.
"I win again. As usual." I tease her. He punched my shoulder lightly, following me into the small vehicle. We sit in the back, where she falls asleep on my shoulder, tired from our adventures.
And for the first time, Annie parents look back at me and grin.Finally. A happy chapter where Annie and Hayden can be themselves without their family being complete jerks.
Sorry I didn't update for a couple days, went through some family issues and didn't have the energy to upload. Should be back to my regular schedule soon!
