ALEXANDER'S POV

"You will stop addressing me by my color." Her voice was demanding but what was happening to her was far more interesting then her voice. Her eyes became lighter. Almost white. I was about to say something, but my father beat me to it.

"You will not speak to me like that, you filthy purple!" My father raised both his arms, ready to end Violet. He flicked both his hands but before he could do any harm Violet screamed. Purple strings of light encircled her arms and hands, and I could feel heat even all the way from here.

A stripe of silver purple appeared in her dark midnight hair. A lighting bolt fell at my dad's feet and my whole family screamed in shock. I was far more intrigued by Violet but her display was over as fast as it began. Her mother fell to her side, cradling her daughter's head.

My family and I surrounded my father, checking that he was okay. The shock put him to black out but didn't do any lasting harm except for a small mark on his left fore arm. It was a white, shaped like a lightning bolt.

"I should've stabbed her," Arian said, as a joke, though his face was dark. Judas cracked open a smile, but I ignored them. My mother, the queen, watched me leave my family and walk over to Violet. I looked down at her resting face.

"What in the world are you?" I whispered to her.

My mother made demands that the purple blood does not leave this palace until we can figure out how she did what she did. Her mother was sent home to ensure her family that she was alright. My mother wanted to lock her up but I wasn't having any of it, so I demanded she was given a room next to mine. I didn't trust my family around her. I needed to keep a close eye on her to make sure she was alright.

I'm not shocked she fell asleep after her first display of power. We all do. But why does she have power? How is that possible?

As I waited for her to wake I sent a search around the kingdom for any books on this power since it was unknown to silvers. I gathered all the books that I could find and brought them in my chambers.

No silver in history has had control over lightning. Violet may have a silver lineage, and with a perfect combination this can occur, but I highly doubted it. I heard a slight knock on the door.

"Come in," I said quietly as to not wake Violet. Judas, my older brother, walked in.

"How is she?" he asked politely. Like a king. He was growing up.

"She's fine. As we all were after our first power reveal. It's still strange though. How's Dad?"

"He's fine. Pissed, but fine." I rolled my eyes. At the age of thirteen all royals are put into life threatening situations to find our powers. This was no different.

"You think the old man will die anytime soon?" I asked coldly.

"Who knows? Besides, you shouldn't talk about him like that. He can be furious sometimes, but he is family," Judas said, all-knowing. For a second he was like the older brother, who knew everything, who scolded me and Arian when we misbehaved. But reality set in, and I had to remember he was next to inherit the throne.

"Anyway, I came in hopes to ask Violet some questions but she's not awake—" My brother was halted by a small meek voice.

"What are your questions, your highness?" Violet blinked slowly at the Prince. Something came over me and I pushed past my brother to hug her. Okay, okay. I was a little worried. She laughed shakily, wrapping one arm around me. "I'm fine. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your father. Is he okay?" she asked with a hint of dishonesty.

"He will be fine. Although you did leave a mark on his arm. Did you know you could do this? Did you know what you are before that happened?" my brother asked sitting in the chair beside her bed.

She took a deep breath. "Not even a little. Do you know what I am? What I can do?"

My brother shook his head, at loss for once.

"Violet, you need to understand this. Not only are you a color with power, you are also the first person to ever do what you do," Judas said after a long while. He shared a concerned look with me.

Violet shook her head slowly. She stood from her bed and walked to the large window nearby. She turned back to us looking at her hands. Her face was full of doubt and shadows as she faced away from the light.

"How do I control it? My power..."

My brother and I looked at each other, speaking through our eyes.

"Training. We will have a professional mentor train you. They taught us all we know. You have to realize, though, she has no idea how to concentrate on your energy as she does with us. So it can take longer then you may think," Judas said.

She nodded slowly before snapping her head at me.

"What can you do?"

I chuckled at her curious eyes. "Open the window." Puzzled, she obeyed, throwing open the chamber windows. Below there was the palace gardens, and I could picture the garden ponds in my head. I concentrated on the water and, with gestures of my hands, pulled it into the room. I created a rose and made it dance at my will. She giggled at it like a small child, sticking her finger in the water. I flicked my hand and the rose turned back into a large ball of shimmering water, and I released it back into the pond through the window.

"And you?" she turned and asked my brother. Judas waved his finger at a vase of flower on the nightstand next to her bed and it suddenly bloomed. It's petals were snow-white, tinged with pale pink. He quickly snapped and the flowers wilted up and died, the petals dropping from the stem almost dejectedly. She gaped, walking over to the flower and inspecting it.

"Amazing," she whispered, looking at us.

Judas shrugged. It was nothing, what he did. "Now I am going to look at this mark you left on my father." Despite seeming calm about how Violet had attacked our father, Judas still seemed a little disapproving.

Violet nodded. As he walked out of the room he waved his finger again, bringing the flower back to life.

"Alex, if I never knew I had this power then how did I use it? How did all this occur?" She asked, examining her hands.

"Well, usually when you're in life threatening situations your body will call into your core, where your power manifests. What my father can do must have scared you, and so you found a way to defend yourself against his power. It's kind of like instinct."

She tilted her head. "If that's the case, how do silvers find their power?" she asked, making me remember my own experience.

"At thirteen we are all put through tests in order for our power to manifest. I have almost died about three times. I once was almost killed by wolves, almost died of hypothermia, and almost drowned. When they put us through these tests one of them is bound to work. They keep a close eye on you while you almost get killed. My brother killed a wolf. Arian made a fire in his hands and almost burned the whole arena. I moved the water away from me. Standing in the middle of a pool while the water floats above me is pretty cool, I must say."

She looked confused and angry, which surprised me.

"Your parents did that to you? All of you? That's... that's just fucked up."

I nodded. It indeed was. I sometimes still have dreams about it. It did haunt me, but over time I learned to stop having nightmares. But the fact that I almost died at my parents' hands was a horrifying thought.

"There is simply no other way. We have no idea how to find it otherwise. All royals do this," I explained hastily. She nodded, but seemed to be thinking and not listening.

Judas strode back into the room, not knocking this time. His expression was unreadable, a tactic a prince must perfect before inheriting the throne. He looked at Violet.

"My mother would like to see you."
