Every day this week was like clock work. The same routine, over and over again.
Wake, eat breakfast with Alex, study, eat lunch, study, train then sleep. Occasionally I would see the other princes, but it was like Alex was the only prince that existed in my life.
But today, today was different. Today I was training with a group. I was training with future knights. Including Alex, who was going to be sparring with the knights in training. I was actually excited to see how he worked with his powers when he's actually trying to win. I wanted to see how the water moved when he was using it for harm rather than show.
I woke up early to stretch and practice with myself since knight training started bright and early at eight in the morning. I sat in the middle of my room with my legs crossed in front of me. I would put my hands together in front of me, focusing on my core. It would charge and then fade. I could feel the energy pulsing between my fingertips, but just as I thought I could make it grow it would disappear. It was the most aggravating thing in the entire world. I decided to give it one last try.
I closed my eyes, focusing on the energy hidden inside me. It tingled all the way to my fingers, making me excited. The light traveled into the palms of my hands, and I could feel the actual heat spread through my hands. I strained more, trying to make it bend at my will.
And finally, finally, it happened. The ball grew in my hands and my eyes opened. I looked down and saw a bright, shimmering orb of light energy spiraling within my hands. And I was the one controlling it. My breath quickened with excitement, but then the door opened and I lost my focus.
"Ahh! You asshole!" I yelled as an unexpecting Alex walked into the room. "I was there! It was in my hands! You just—arghh. What do you want?" I asked, wanting him to leave. I wanted to see if I could do it again.
"It's time to practice," he said. "You can show off later." I sighed, and went into the washroom to change into the leather clothes Somalan gave me. When I was finished we hurried to the arena. Somalan hated tardiness, and I was not going to test her limits today.
"Happy to see you guys decided to show up," Somalan said unpleasantly as soon as we entered the room. There were already a handful of knights waiting behind her.
Alex had told me the night before that these knights were all young men, sixteen to seventeen years old. In their battle gear, they looked a lot more older, more powerful. Camodia's future warriors. I shuddered, wondering what their powers would be.
"So you're that purple blood," one of them scoffed. He looked like the alpha, a guy who strikingly stood out from the rest. He had the poise of a prince and his grey eyes were sparkling. "How long do you think she'll last out here, huh?"
"Silence, Azuraq," Somalan snapped. "Now pay attention. You all will tie bandanas around your right arm. The practice is simple: fight, and get as many bandanas as you can. Each bandana is a point, and the one who has the most will have a day off tomorrow. I will be sparring myself, and my bandana will be worth more. Whoever gets my bandana automatically wins, no matter who has the most. Whoever loses their bandana is out, and they will go sit and watch."
"Are there any other rules?" one of the other knights piped up.
"Real battle has no rules," Somalan said. "Here, there are only two rules: fight and survive. This is not just about strength, but strategy. You can team up with others or be alone, your call. Now, spread all over the arena! When you hear the bell, then the match starts."
She passed out bandanas, and I tied mine around my arm. I was apprehensive—on one hand, I was excited about this new challenge, but on the other hand I did not want to get beat up here. Besides, I was the only purple. I had a reputation. I promised myself I would win.
