7 months later
I climbed into bed next to Alec, and he fondly ran his hands over the large bump that had formed on my stomach. I put my hand on his and looked up at him, grateful.
"If it's a boy, he's going to look just like you," I said.
"I just hope it gets your ambition. Not to mention your eyes."
I laughed, feeling the love of my own family around me.
"Come on. I need to sleep. I'm really tired," I said, kissing him drowsily.
Alex nodded understandingly and helped me get comfortable before we both drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

My eyes shot up as I felt an excruciating pain as though my back was being stabbed. I groaned, and Alex stirred before taking notice of my pain. He sat up instantly and shifted to me, rubbing his hand along my lower back.
"What's wrong, my Viole?" he asked, trying to comfort me. Just before I was going to answer, another wave of unbearable pain shot through me and I hunched over and screamed.
Alex saw the seriousness of the situation and scooped me up, sprinting to the infirmary. The pain kept surging through me, making me cry and yell in pain.
Alex ran his hand along my face, trying but failing to fix my pain. I was quickly and gently set on the hospital bed.
Soon several doctors were busying around the room, figuring out what was going on with me and my baby.
"Queen Violet, it seems you are going into labor rather quickly. You seemed to have slept through a majority of it and delivery will be taking place within the next few minutes," a doctor said over my groaning. I nodded shakily as another wave of pain went through me.
A pair of trained nurses hoisted up my legs and began giving me instructions on breathing and contractions.
"Okay, push!" One of them coaxed.
I pushed on my lower core and felt as if I had made not progress. I couldn't see through the pain and tears.
Alex grabbed my hand and I knew I was basically crushing it. "
"Another one, please," the nurse said in an encouraging tone. I pushed harder this time and felt little relief.
"Gah! Fuck! When will this thing come out?" I screamed, rage coursing through me.
"One more time, my queen," Alex said, kissing my tear-stricken face. I took a deep breath and pushed as hard as I could and felt the weight be lifted. I waited to hear the cries of my baby but they never came.
"Alex, is it out?" I gasped, feeling hot and cold at the same time. Both a fever and a migraine pounded through my aching head, and I clutched Alex's hands. "Alex?"
The king didn't answer me. Blinking through tears, I saw a mixture of horror and confusion pass over his face. "Doctor?" he asked, trembling.
"See for yourself, sir," the doctor said in a quiet, somber voice. He gave Alex a small baby, and I leaned forward and strained to hear some sort of crying or wailing.
"Why is it so quiet?" I mumbled. Alex looked at me with frightened eyes and gave me the baby, almost too quickly as if he wanted to get rid of it.
