VIOLET'S POV
I swallowed dryly as Judas walked back to the throne room. Alex took my hand in his and squeezed reassuringly, noticing my anxiety.
"It's going to be alright," he whispered gently.
As soon as I entered the room, water was suddenly pushed into my mouth. I tried to spit it out but it wouldn't budge. I looked up and saw the queen holding up a hand towards my direction. She looked graceful and beautiful, sitting up straight regally in her throne, but her face was intimidating.
"You will not say a word unless I allow you to," Arianelle said. Ah, the queen possessed water manipulation. Great. "You say one disrespectful thing and I will send this water to your lungs. Understand?"
I nodded furiously with water pressed against the back of my throat. I breathed through my nose, but my anxiety made it difficult to do so.
"Mother, this is not needed, release the water now! She can keep her mouth in check on her own accord," Alex pleaded.
"Silence, my son. She can't. Last time her mouth almost killed your own father. Let me do what I need to do for my own family." She sighed, almost tiredly. "Now, little lightning girl. First and foremost... why did you decide to strike down your own king?"
I felt the water pulled out of my mouth and it hung mid air in front of me in a huge bubble.
"He angered me, your highness. I never meant to hurt him or anyone, really—" My words were cut off by the water returning to my mouth in a sudden rush. I swallowed a little and gagged. My cheeks started hurting.
"I don't want to hear you apologize, the deed proves otherwise. Now, you will follow these guidelines. You will stay here in this castle for the time being, and you will learn to hide your powers. You will not use your power outside the training arena. You will occupy your current chambers. Absolutely no socializing with any guests we may have. If you are to be caught in conversation, say you are a silver visiting from the east, yes?"
I again nodded. I was then thankfully released from my torture as the water was once again pulled from my mouth. But the queen's gaze on me was cold and unforgiving.
"Now leave."
I spun around quickly, dashing out of the room before realizing I forgot to bow at my dismissal. I didn't care. I wanted to get as far away from the queen as possible. I heard Alex jog behind me.
"Wait! Violet!"
I stopped. "Are you okay?" he asked. He looked taken back when I looked up at him with teary eyes.
"I just want to go home. I want to go finish a dress and I want to argue with my brother. I want to go buy an apple from Marigold. I haven't seen the little Blackwell child I was supposed to look after. But I can't! I'm stuck here. For lord knows how long!" My voice rose in a shrill panic. The prince looked just as lost as I did as he tried to figure something out.
"Violet. I'm sorry. I wish—" he began to hug me but I pushed him off.
"Stop. Just stop! You don't even know me! Stop acting like you do! Leave me be and let me just be alone!" I yelled, feeling my throat close up from anger. "If you ever do anything right, just bring me my family!"
I ran down the corridors to get back to my room. My room. Who am I kidding? My real room was at home. This place can never come close to home. Where was Mauve, my mom and my dad?
I fell onto the bed, holding the soft velvet pillows close, wishing it was my mother. I drifted off to a restless sleep.
"Violet. Wake up."
