Its been a week since the dinner and also one of the most eventful weeks of my life.
I'm 9 weeks pregnant and the baby was growing fantastically. Theo and I also seemed to be getting closer.
During the week I had the opportunity to plan designs for the homeless shelter and tweak anything necessary. Tommorow the actual building process is going to begin and I couldn't be more excited!
The goal of the shelter is to seem secure and safe, two things I rarely felt as a kid.
I was watching the builders knock down the old building, that will soon be replaced with the new building. Theo put it under my name as well.
I felt a presence behind me and Theo appeared in front of me with orange juice in his hands.
"For me?" I said hopefully.
"Always," he said, handing me the drink.
I smiled, slowly sipping my tasty drink, as we watched the building break down into nothingness.
"Let's head home," he said. "You're probably tired."
I nodded. It's true, I was getting tired of standing around.
We headed home with light chatter about the new place. I was chilling on my bed when he walked in and sat on the comfy rocking chair.
"I know you're busy with the new shelter and all but we have to discuss the marriage at some point. Might as well get it over with, right?" He said, easing into it.
I let out a sigh and agreed. "Sure. I guess now's a better time than ever," I said.
"Let's get married next week," he said.
I probably shouldn't be surprised when he blurts things out like that but I still find myself with my jaw on the ground.
"Next week? We haven't even planned anything yet!" I said, overwhelmed.
"I've already booked a hall and made a small list of guests we may potentially invite, including your friends. You just need to look over it really," he explained.
I was in shock. Wait, so he'd been planning the wedding this whole time? Damn. I must've been too busy puking, working, and planning the design for the new shelter. Oh and also being pregnant.
"Wow" I said, still in shock. And then one thing registered in my mind. "Do we get to try cake?" I said shyly.
"Actually," he checked his rolex watch, "In a few hours if you want."
"If I want? If I want? Of course I want!" I exclaimed. Who doesn't want cake?
"Whoa. Take it easy there," he chuckled, "We have about two hours until we leave so you can chill for now. I have some work to do so I'll see you later," and then he was gone.
The first thing I wanted to do was call Cali. I still remembered the look on her face when I told her I was engaged during a quick meet up at a cafe. She's going to be even more shocked when she finds out it's next week. God help me.
I dialed her number and sat down on my bed, toying with the pink sheets. I waited for a few minutes until she finally picked up the phone.
"Hello?" Cali said.
"Hey it's me," I said happily. Her voice makes me smile.
"Heyy girl. What's up?" She said.
"Well you know how I told you I'm engaged right?" I could basically hear her nodding, "Well the wedding is next week," I rushed, hoping she didn't hear.
Unfortunately she did and now she's screaming. How pleasant.
"Ahh! Oh my god! I'm so excited! Why so soon?" She bombarded me.
"Chill out" I started, hoping to calm her.
"Chill out?! My best friends getting married next week and you want me to chill?" She exclaimed.
"Good point," I nodded knowing I would react the same way.
"Why so soon?" She questioned.
"If we wait any longer, his mom is probably going to invite thousands of people and we just want a small wedding," I explained, leaving out the part of it probably being temporary.
"Am I invited?" She said giddily.
At this I burst out laughing. "Of course you are silly! Actually I was wondering if you would be my maid of honor," I said hesitantly.
There was silence and then...
"YES!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. "OF COURSE I WILL!"
I'm so lucky to have her.
I leaned back on the bed, a huge smile on my face. "Thank you, Cali. Love you," I said from the bottom of my heart.
We continued to talk about the wedding plans until Theo came into my room.
"Cakes?" He whispered.
I motioned 'one minute' with my hand.
"Hey Cali, I gotta go do some wedding stuff now. I'll talk to you later. Bye love you," I finished, before walking down the stairs, eager to eat cake.
"Ready to get fat?" I told him, knowing that was impossible. He was probably born with abs. Will my baby be born with abs then? The thought made me excited.
"As ever," he replied putting his arm around me with that stupid smirk of his.
But I've got to admit. It's growing on me.
