Chris POV

"Everything alright back there?" Ash asked from the driver's seat while keeping her sight on the road as we neared the city borders.

"We're losing him!" I called back as I did my best to not freak out. But when I said that, I wanted drown in tears, praying that he was still with us.

My heart racing, my body trembling and my mind not ready to accept this, I knew that there was really not much I could do. At this point, I was powerless but I could still pretend.
"Hurry!" I yelled with urgency to Ash and in response she stepped on gas, taking us from 80mph to 100.

I shook Ricky by the shoulders trying to get him to return but his body was lifeless and colder than ever. Lightly slapping his cheeks a few times in my best efforts to get him to react, I got nothing in response. His pearly blue eyes just gazed off into the distance, gleaming as we passed the road lights. I knew that the moment I placed my hand over his eyes to seal them. It would be all over. Keeping them open was the only sense of hope there was for me but I would feel awful if this was how he was laid to rest.

"No! Don't think like that!" I scolded myself as I kept trying to wake him.

After five more minutes of trying I gave up and hugged him close, simultaneously looking for any pulse or breath. This can't be it, no. I am not ready to say goodbye and it's not fair for this to be his fate. I Held his hand tight while making circles on the top of it with my thumb. When I looked up from Ricky and out of the window, we were pulling into the ER unit's hospital parking lot. Letting out a muted sigh, I leaned over Ricky giving him a soft and loving kiss on his forehead. As the seconds inched along I only became more scared and all I could do now was hope that this wasn't the end of him.
