Autumn Leaves

Ed woke up the next morning. He found leaves all on the ground. He looked up. "I'll write another one." He said as he looked up. He went back home and started writing a new song. "Autumn Leaves." He looked but at the picture. "You like the sound of that?" Ed asked with a smile. "You know, buddy? It's not complicated. Mum may want her life to be different. Her life is different than mine. We took it much differently. But guess what. She loves us both."

His cat came and sat right beside him. He rubbed his head lightly and smiled. "You miss Emily too?" He asked the cat. "She was here just the other day. Now she's miles away." He thought for a moment then grabbed a piece of paper. "I'll be writing a load." He murmured.

Another day, another life passes by just like mine, it's not complicated. Another mind, another soul another body to grow old, it's not complicated. Do you ever wonder if the stars shine out for you? Float down, like autumn leaves. Hush now, close your eyes before the sleep. And you're miles away, and yesterday you were here with me.

Another tear, another cry, another place for us to die, it's not complicated, another love that's gone to waste, another light lost from your face, it's complicated. Is it that it's over or do birds still sing for you? Float down, like autumn leaves. Hush now, close your eyes before the sleep. And you're miles away, and yesterday you were here with me.

Ooh how I miss you, my symphony played the song that carried you out. Ooh how I miss you and I miss you and I wish you'd stay. Do you ever wonder if the stars shine out for you? Float down, like autumn leaves. Hush now, close your eyes before the sleep. And you're miles away, and yesterday you were here with me.

Touch down, like a seven four seven, or stay out, and we'll live forever now.

He sighed and ran his hand through his ginger hair. "I miss you," Edward said to the picture. The one next to it was a picture of Ed and Emily, hugging each other dearly.

Emily walked down the street, feeling the sorrow life had given hair. "Emily!" A voice called. She turned her head.

"Abraham!" She exclaimed.

"I heard about what happened after high school. Cornell? Wow. That's great." He said smiling. She nodded.

"Yeah. It is great. I still work for the newspaper and The New York Times. I'm doing pretty good so far." She said smiling.

"I heard. I also heard some not bad stuff. Drug addicted boys and getting abused? Didn't see that from such an intelligent girl." He said scratching his neck.

"Yeah. They're arrested though. I'm with a ginger boy though, he isn't remotely like them. He's a cat person who is making an album. His song 'The A-Team' is starting to spread around a bit in England. I promised him it'll be in America soon. I might even write about it." She said.

"Oh, I heard you were engaged. Then again that was from the town drunk so I can't trust everything I hear." She laughed at him.

"No, no I'm not engaged. I wish. I think he's the one. He saved me. He really did. I'm alright because of him. I'm not dead. If I hadn't met him, I might be dead of drugs being inhaled into my soul." She said nodding. He laughed.

"But you're a redhead? There is no soul." She laughed and nudged his shoulder.

"True. Very true, Abraham. But no, I'm not engaged. My hand is still as pale as ever with nothing on it. My fourth finger is completely clear. We just had a miscarriage, so I'll be here for a while." She said nodding, trying not to get emotional.

"I heard about that part. I'm sorry." He said to her.

"Thanks. I don't think Ed and I wouldn't have lasted at parenting very long." She said, forcing a laugh. He laughed too.

"In high school, you were voted worst parent I do believe." She nodded and laughed.

"I was also most likely to succeed, Valid Victorian, Best red-haired kid - I was the only redhead in the town - and I was also most likely to save the world from an alien invasion, and most likely to read herself to death. Great times." She laughed.

"Good catching up. I work part-time at the coffee shop. I go to the college here to be a teacher. EIghth grade. Wish me luck." He said smiling.

"God, a bunch of hormonal teens questioning their sexuality... you'll need luck." She said raising her eyebrows. He laughed.

"I will. I will indeed." He replied nodding. "Good catching up, Emily. I hope things go well with your red-haired guy." He said smiling. She smiled without showing her teeth and nodding slightly.

"His name is Ed. Ed Sheeran, you'll know it someday. He'll be a Grammy winner. Three years to come at the most." She said nodding and smiling. He chuckled.

"I'll remember. Bye, Emily."

"Bye, Abraham." She said waving to him as she walked off.

She didn't get very far until Ed called her and she smiled. "Hi, Teddy Bear." She said with a grin for the first time.

"Happy?" He asked.

She nodded. "I caught up with an old friend. Teddy, I want you to come here someday. Not now though. A week maybe. Not this moment." She said shaking her head.

"Anything to see you again." He replied, nodding and smiling. "I wrote more songs for you." He said smiling.

"Y-You did?" She stuttered in shock.

"Yeah. A few, actually. A few." He said slowly. "I made them for you. And him. I thought you would like it." He said to her. "I think you'll like them. If you don't want me... I think that I... I hope you hear them. You'll know what for you." He said nodding.

"Thanks." She replied.

"Anything for you, Emily." He said nodding and smiled. "Anything for the prettiest girl alive."
