Ed called Emily and she sighed as she walked down the street. "Eddy," She said.
"It's been a month. And a month of torture." He said. She sighed.
"Eddy... I think I should say something." She said, people's heads turning.
"What? Is there someone else-? "No! No there isn't anyone else! I just... I think we should break up. For the sake of our unborn kid." She said without second thoughts. "Yeah. I think we should."
He fell silent and froze. "That's fine." He replied, knowing it wasn't.
"Eddy, it's over between you and I." She said hanging up. She looked up and saw the other newspaper writer. "Jackson if you dare put that in the paper!" She snapped, looking at her friend with slick black hair and black glasses.
"You wanted to meet up and discuss writing ideas. I think we should use it." He replied, grinning.
"Don't you dare put my heartbreak and splatter it all over the paper like it's entertainment!" She said as she walked to him.
"Heartbreak?"
"I love Eddy! Without a doubt! But we just lost our kid! I have to break up with him! Of course, I still love him!" SHe shouted. He rolled his eyes. "Girls are like that. Sarah's like it too sometimes. Overdramatic." SHe explained, mentioning his fiance, Sarah.
"I doubt it. She isn't like most girls." He said. She rolled her eyes and hugged him.
"Thank god you're my friend." She said as she hugged him.
"I was your brothers best friend. Of course, Emily." He replied as he hugged her back. She let go quickly.
"Ulgh. You don't hug like Ed does." She said, wiping her sleeves on her shirt. He rolled his eyes.
Ed sat down. "What... what just happened?" He asked himself. He sighed and looked up. "She'll come back, Edward. I promise you." He said, wiping his nose and sniffing.
"We just ended over that. But she'll come back. I know it."
Emily was at her office that night. Her phone buzzed. Her ringtone was Ed singing. "Ed?" She asked as she sighed, the other newspaper staff looking at her. They were editors and publishers, and around her age. "I don't have time for what you have to say. Whether it's a song or not. I have to work. They decided to write about me breaking up with you. They thought it was... entertaining." She said honestly.
"Emily?" He asked.
"What, Ed? What?" She said, slightly annoyed.
"Remeber how we would watch videos you made every day in your room. Everday. You watched them ten years later. I just watched one. How come you hated how you looked? Ten years old me would've loved how you looked. Your glasses are adorable." He said honestly.y She paused.
"You're hair is adorable. How messy it is. How short you are. Your braces look adorable on you. I love that Harry Potter poster you have, along with the Star Wars shirt you have on. You talked in such an odd way when your braces were tightened. But you were naming all your flaws... and if I knew you at that age... you would've felt so pretty.
"And deep down I know you don't care. But if child me would've liked child you... I still love you. Older me loves older you." He said. She put her hand on her face.
"Ed..." She said sighing.
"Emily I get it! I get that you want to break up! But I had to say that. I had to-" "No you didn't!" She shouted.
He sighed and paused. "You're stressing me out." She said sighing. "Bye, Ed." She said hanging up.
He sighed and threw his phone on his bed and shouted a swear word.
"Emily?" Her co-workers asked.
"I'm a tad bit busy." She said with her hand on her face. They rolled their eyes.
"We grew up with you, Emily. You like him. You're lying to yourself." She stood up and left, not regretting anything.
Ed sighed and looked at his cat. "She's stubborn, isn't she?" He asked. The cat meowed. "I'll say that much," Ed said, taking a drink of his beer. He sighed. "Why do I love her?" He mumbled.
Emily walked in the street. "Broke up!" Carl asked. Emily sighed.
"Yes. I have that ability." Emily said raising her eyebrows.
"Alright. Fine. I mean... you two really loved each other. You were meant to be. Isn't it clear? He saved you. It was like you were stuck somewhere else... until he pulled you out. A random man. And you ended up loving him. And you still do. We see it in your eyes. Your small blue eyes that used to be covered by glasses." Rosalie said.
"Ed called. He said that young him would've loved me. He would've loved me so much. And he said that he found me amazing. He says child him wasn't very good like, but I beg to differ." SHe said sadly.
"You love him. It's settled." Carl said nodding.
"Carl," She sighed, knowing Carl hated her name. "I know it." She replied sadly. "I know it."
Ed lay on his bed. He missed having Emily next to him. She would lie against his chest until they fell asleep. He loved her comfort, and she loved his. He turned over to no one. When he used to turn over and Emily was awake, she would kiss his lips for a short moment and rub his cheek. Now, he saw no one. No ginger girl, no sleeping girl, no newspaper writer, no person told tightly against his chest. No one.
He sighed and stood up. "Fine." He mumbled to himself. "Fine, fine, fine, fine." He said sighing. He turned his TV on and played a video. It was him and Emily. She was rocking back and forth, crying. 'It's OK.' Ed heard himself. 'Just a bad dream.' He told Emily. 'Just lay against me. Fall asleep. I'll be here to protect you.'
Ed remembered this time. They were just friends at that time. Friends were something they could never again be.
