Chapter 4

October 3rd, 7:10 A.M.

I awake as someone shakes me rapidly.

"Laura, get up!" Someone yells and I groan to life. I sit up in my bed and look around. "Your going to be late for school. I look at my mom as she walks toward my door.

"Shit." I say getting out of bed and run to the window as I hear the bus coming.

"Just drive." My mom says as I throw some pants on.

"Really?" I ask her.

"Ya. Your dad talked to me and told me how unfair it is for you to have to take the bus with people you don't like because I'm over protective." She says as I go to my closet and grab clothes then run to the bathroom.

"Thanks." I say kissing her cheek on the way out of my room.

"Why are you in such a hurry?"

"I have time to go to Kwik Trip." I throw my long hair into a bun, quick brush my teeth, then run out and into my room to grab my converse.

"So are you going to the Homecoming dance?" My mom asks looking at me from the doorway.

"No." I say slipping my shoes on then grabbing my keys, phone, backpack, and purse. "I got to go mom. See you later."

"Be safe." She says as I run down the stairs and out to my car. I slip my purse around my head as I open the back door of my truck and throw my backpack in. When I close the door I see Steven standing there.

"Good morning." He says and I look at him.

"Shouldn't you be on the bus?"

"Missed it and noticed I didn't see you at the stop either so I decided to come over."

"What if I was ill from last night and couldn't go to school today?" I ask looking at him.

"Then that would be a shame." He says. "Driving to school?"

"Just woke up so ya. I'm going to Kwik trip before. Want a ride?"

"Sure." He says.

"That is the reason you came over here." I say seeing his back pack.

"Nah." He says smiling then gets into the side of my car. I get into my side and put the keys. "So what's at Kwik Trip?"

"Food and drinks." I say then back up and drive away. I hand him my phone as I drive. "Play some music."

"What do you want to listen to?" He asks.

"Don't care just play something." He takes the phone as I get a text.

"Your mom says to try and find some friends to go to homecoming with you." he says.

"Oh god. Just don't answer her." I say as another ding goes off. "If that's her.."

"Its an unknown number." He says. "Hello Laura, its Brody from yesterday. Just wanted to say good morning beautiful."

"Aww just say good morning." I say and he does then plays I apologize by Five Finger Death Punch. "Good choice. Perfect morning song."

"Maybe Brody will ask you to the dance." He says saying 'Brody' weird.

"Wow. He most likely has a girlfriend, plus I just met him."

"If he asked what would you say?"

"Yes but as friends because I want to stay that way until I get to know him. I want to go to the dance but I don't have friends so if someone asks its a miracle." I say as we pull into Kwik trip. "Are you coming in?"

"Nah I'll wait here." He says and I nod then get out of my car taking my keys and phone with me.

"Good morning." The lady at the register says as I walk in.

"Morning." I say smiling then walk to the drinks. I look up and down tell I find something that looks good. I grab two monsters off the shelf then walk to the front when I see some cookies. Of course begin the person I am, I walk over and grab a container then turn around and run into someone. "I'm sorry."

"Its okay... oh hey Laura." They say and I look up to see Brody.

"Hey." I say smiling. "How are you?"

"I'm good." He says holding a coffee. "I come here for coffee every morning."

"I would but this is my first time driving to school." I say walking to the register and putting the Monsters and cookies on the counter. The lady scans the items then smiles at me.

"Five twenty please." She says and I take out my wallet then hand her money. "Out of ten. Your change is four eighty."

"Thank you." I say putting it back into my wallet. "See you at school, Brody."

"Yup." I walk past him and outside. Steven smiles when I open the door.

"There you are." I say handing him a monster.

"Thanks." He says.

"Is that Brody?" Steven asks and I look up as he walks out and to his car.

"Ya. Its weird how I went from never seeing him to seeing him everywhere." I say.

"Ya that is weird." he says then we drive off the school. "And we still have ten minutes to spare." Steven says when we pull into the school parking lot.

"Ya. Want to just listen to music?"

"Sure." He says and I take my phone back from him. We sit in my car listening to music and talking until a couple minutes before the bell rings. We get out of the car and walk toward the school with monster in hand.

"Steven, where were you on the bus today?" Someone asks behind us. I see him stop but I keep walking. I honestly hate people. Not for any reasons I just hate everyone. People can hurt you. They tear you apart piece by piece until you feel no point in living anymore, that's why I find it best to be alone because nobody can hurt me but myself. I hear Steven say my name but I keep walking and go into the school toward my class.

"Hey Laura" Brody says as I walk past him.

"Hey." I say smiling at him.

"Want to go to the mall after school with us?" He asks.

"I'm good but thanks." I say.

"Okay we did go yesterday. How about the movies?" He asks.

"I'm busy. I'm sorry." I say looking at him then his friends.

"Oh..." he says turning around. "I'll see you guys later.

"You didn't have to do that." I say when they walk away. I wish he would go talk to his friends because I feel like they are all going to hate more then they already do now.

"I understand when someone is uncomfortable.."

"I wasn't uncomfortable I just don't like people." I say and he nods. "Well, I think I'm going to go to class."

"Okay. Juts let me know if you want to do something after school. Oh, do you want to go out for lunch today?"

"What hour do you have lunch?" I ask.

"Fifth." He says and I nod.

"Same. And sure. Just meet me over by the front doors, I'm driving." I say and eh nods.

"See you then."
