October 16, 7:40a.m.
I walk into school, of course late because my car was having problems starting. Why would I ever rely on a truck that is older than me? I slowly walk down he halls toward my class but stop when I see someone running toward me.
"Hey." Someone says running in through the door behind me, Steven and Jacob. I guess I'm not the only one late to classes today.
"Laura, wait." Jacob says running beside me and grabbing my arm.
"Please Laura. Talk to me. We are sorry, what do we have to do to make you talk to us again?" Steven asked and I just looked at them. I tried to walk away but Jacob grabbed my arm again, pulling me into a hug. I felt butterfly's in my stomach from his touch. I don't ever want to leave his arms. They make me feel like I'm protected.
"I'm so sorry Laura. Please say something." He says and I pull away, which takes everything I have. I am mad at him and I can't just fall into his arms after one day.
"I have to get to class." I say then walk away and they let me. They have been texting and calling me all night. Why don't they understand that when they make a mistake it takes a while for a girl to forgive? They have to wait patiently until I am okay. I knock on my class door and she lets me in then starts to lecture again.
When lunch finally comes, I decide to leave the school and go home. My moms at work so she's not going to be home tell late tonight. That means I can go take a nap, eat, then come back and not have to say a word to either of them. I walk to the parking lot and find my truck but, of course, they are standing there waiting for me.
"Get off my car." I say then walk to the drivers seat and get in. They walk to the door and open I before I can lock the door.
"Where are you going?" Jacob asks as I just look at them.
"That's non of your business. Can't you take a hint and see that I don't want to see you guys right now?" I half yell at them.
"Laura, its not safe. They know..." Jacob starts to say looking at me seriously.
"Oh so now your worried about me." I say then laugh. I grab the door and slam it closed.
"Laura please." Steven yells. "They know where we..."
"Leave me alone." I say then back up and drive home. God why are they not taking a hint. "Shit!" I hit the brakes hard when the person in front of me brakes hard. I braked right in time. One more second and I would have hit them. I drive around them as the driver gets out. He is wearing all black and a face tattoo. He smiles at me as I drive past then goes back into his car. I feel chills go down my spine as I hit the gas and rive home quick. I park inside the garage and close the doors before any cars can see where I went. "Your just paranoid. Calm down." I go inside and to the living room, my heart still racing. While laying down on the couch, my phone starts to ring. Jacob. I hang up then go to sleep on the couch.
About half a hour later, I wake up to something dropping in the kitchen. I sit up straight on the couch and rub my eyes awake. Was it in my dream? I stand up and walk to the kitchen.
"Shit." I say looking at the clock. I have ten minutes to get back to school. I look on the table where I thought I left my keys and my phone but it was empty. My heart drops. I swear I put them there. I look around the living room but don't find them.
"Looking for something?" A rough male voice asks behind me. I jump and turn around almost making myself fall. The guy laughs as I just standing there paralyzed with fear. He has slicked back brown hair, piercing brown eyes, maybe about 6'1, and sticking cheek bones. Two guys stand behind him. I recognize one. The guy that braked in front of my like twenty minutes ago! If the guy in front of me didn't hold a pistol in his hand, I would have thought he was hot. "Like what you see?"
"Who are you?" I ask.
"Oh, I'm sorry Laura. We never properly met. I'm Devon." He smiles at me.
"What do you want?" I ask and he laughs then looks at the guys behind him. I take the advantage to make a run for the door.
"Get her!" He yells behind me. I get the door open and as I am about to take a step I get slammed to the ground. I hear the door slam shut. "Can you believe that?"
"No, sir. Never seen someone do that before." Someone says as I get kicked in the stomach. Pain surges in me and I grab my stomach.
"What...do you want?" I ask trying to process if this is real or not.
"Where's Jacob?" Devon asks kneeling next to me.
"At school." I mutter to him.
"He let you come home alone?" He asks and I give him a death glare.
"They don't tell me what to do." I say and he smiles.
"Now, that's my kind of girl. Its a shame such a pretty face went to waste on him." He says grabbing my chin but I move away from his grip. He smiles at the ground. "I am really going to regret this..." He puts a hand out to help me up. I take it but don't loose eye contact with him.
"I believe you that he is at school." He says putting a hand on my back and leading to the couch. He sits down then pats the couch next to him and I sit. I try to move so I wasn't so close to him but he got closer and closer. His friends sat down on the couch towards the exit and I felt my heart sink.
"If you are looking for him he is at school. I can tell you what room he even is in and what classes he has." I say out of fear. Why is it that he can put so much fear into me without even lifting a finger?
"Thank you baby girl, but I didn't come here looking for him."He says smiling at me and I just look at him. "I came looking for you."
"Why me?" I ask.
"Well, my first plan was to just go find him and kill him but I decided not to. Then I thought about how much he talked about you and how beautiful you were..." He looks me up and down. "He wasn't lying. So my second plan was to come here and kidnap you." I tense up and he sees this and puts a hand on my leg. "But I just decided not to..."
"What? Why not?" One of the guys asks.
"Because she can be useful. She changed my mind without even doing anything."
"But look at her innocent face. It would be so easy just to...." One of the guys says but Devon shoots him a look and he shuts up.
"What are we going to do with her then?" The other guy asks and he just looks at me, thinking. I feel a chill go down my spin. A smile appears on his face that makes me feel sick.
"I'm sorry hun." Devon says getting up and stands in front of me. He plays with the gun in his hand and I just stare down at it but then he puts it away. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and look at his face. He kisses my forehead and I don't pull away. "I need to leave your boyfriend..."
"He's not my boyfriend." I say and he smiles.
"Well, I have to leave Jacob a message." He says then turns toward his friends. "Be out in five minutes. I'll be in the car."
"Where are you going?" I ask as he walks to the door. I stand up as his friends walk towards me.
"I have to do what gang leaders do. Show people not to fuck with me." He says. "This is going to hurt a bit but I will see you soon. Oh, also, tell Jacob to call me. Boys, be carful. Only a few cuts and bruises." With that he leaves and his friends smile down at me.
"This is going to be fun." One says cracking his knuckles then punch's me right in the jaw. I fall to the couch, grabbing my cheek. When I look back at him, his friend punch's my stomach then lifts me up by my neck. They keep going back and forth until a car horn honks outside. Blood is gushing out of my mouth and nose. They drop me to the floor.
"That was fun. Hope we see each other again." One says then I see their shadowy figures leave. I catch my breath on the ground then start to cry. Pain fills my whole body.
