AN HOUR LATER

The ride was quiet, except for the radio playing lightly. Steven and Jacob both know that I was never going to forgive them for this. We were relying on each other for our own safety but they would rather act like infants. When we pulled into my driveway I didn't even dare look at them. I opened the door and went to the back. Steven grabbed his stuff then looked at me but I just looked inside the car as I grabbed my stuff. He took a deep breath then walked toward his house. I closed the trunk of Jacobs car and walked toward the house, praying he wouldn't come after me. When I was a few steps away from the front door he grabbed my arm, making me turn to face him.

"I'm so sorry, Laura." He says and I didn't make eye contact. I simply brushed his hand off my arm and backed away from him, toward the front door. I looked into his eyes and saw so much sorrow. Maybe they should have thought of that before they went and fought in our safe place, now I would rather take my chances with these old gang members. "I'm really sorry..."

"You should have thought of that before." I say grabbing the spare key from under a rock. I go toward the front door and open it.

"How long are you going to ignore me?" He asks and I only half looked at him.

"Just...give me time. You guys messed up and now you need to pay the consequences." I walk inside but didn't close the door all the way.

"I love you..." He said as I closed the door. I run up to my room and throw my stuff onto the floor, keeping it into the bag. I just need time and they should understand that. What they did wasn't right in any way, shape, or form and they are going to have to learn that. I groan then walk to my computer, opening my email to see all the assignments my teachers sent me. I start working on them with my music until my mom came home.

"Laura?"

"Be right down." I say running down the stairs.

"What are you doing home?" She asked hugging tightly. I tap her back when it get shard to breath and she lets go and just holds my shoulders. She has a bruise on her forehead and in the middle is a cut with stiches through it.

"Oh my god..." I say. She still has a hand mark on her neck. I move my hand to touch her face but she grabs my hand.

"Don't worry about me," She says and I feel my heart drop. "Now, why don't you get some sleep and in the morning you can explain some of this to me before school....you are going to school tomorrow right?"

"Ya." I say looking down. "But can I just tell you now and get it over with."

"Sure. Let me make dinner then we can talk." She says and I nod going back upstairs to finish my homework until she says dinners done.

"Thanks." I say as she hands me my plate.

"Its no problem." She says sitting down. We quick eat it all then she looks at me. "Just tell me whenever your ready."

"Okay. You ready?" I ask.

"Ya." she says.

"So, you remember my ex Jacob, the one that used to hit me?" I ask and she nods, tensing up. "Well it turns out he was in a gang and that's why he used to hurt me. They would make him hurt me or they threatened to do worse. He was so scared he just complied."

"What does this have anything..."

"Just wait." I say. "So, a few days ago they made him get back together with me or they said they would kill me. He found a way to get out of the gang and stayed with me. He started to change and I noticed because he would tell me he was changing and it was true. Jacob tried to go back to his house to reason with him after but he accidently scratched his car. Being the gang members they were, they took it as a threat and now are trying to kill him and the ones he loves. That's why they came here, they were looking for me. Because he loves me."

She looks around for a few seconds completely shocked and trying to process it.

"Oh.." She says looking at me. She is trying to completely process everything I just said. I don't blame her, finding out her daughter is being hunted by a gang because her ex boyfriend scratched their car is a lot to take in. "Why did you come back...?"

"I didn't want to stay there anymore." I lied. She doesn't need to know about the hate between Steven and Jacob. "I would rather be here, with you then hiding in some house."

"We need to call the police." She says getting up but I grab her arm.

"No. They might arrest Jacob for being in the gang even though he was forced. There has been no noise from them for about a week or two. We are safe now." She seems to calm with that.

"Why don't you go get some sleep for tomorrow." She says and I nod then stand up.

"Goodnight." I say.

"Good night sweetie." She says and I go upstairs. She isn't going to be sleeping tonight but neither am I. I should just have made up some lie. What if she calls the police?
