Two Weeks Later
The house is a mess, with everything I've been doing I have barely got time to tidy up our place. Our house is finally ready for us to move in and I've been busy packing things up, I started with my stuff, that was the easy part. I don't have a lot of things. Then, I helped Harry with his. He does have a lot of clothes.
Then, with Jack's. That was the heaviest. For such a tiny baby he has more things than Harry and I combined. I was finishing packing a box when the bell rang, the moving company has arrived. I'm seriously a mess, my hair is messy, my clothes is dusty and I'm sweating, not to mention Jack threw a little bit of his food right to my shirt.
"Hi! Come in. Sorry for the mess." I say as soon as I get to the door. "If you can work quietly, the baby is sleeping and I would really appreciate if we don't wake him up."
"Don't worry, ma'am. Where do we start?" One of the guys says, in a quiet tone.
"You guys can start upstairs. I need to finish around here." I say, securing the monitor in the strap of my jeans.
Box after box I see the house emptier with each minute that passes. All the workers go up and down the stairs, trying to be as quiet as possible. I just coordinate their moves, they pack the big things, like furniture, and also put them in their truck.
An hour passed and everything was packed. Jack woke up in the meantime because they accidentally dropped a chair, when he woke up they ended up doing what I had to do, because I had to take care of him. For my luck, a lot of the things for the new place arrived this week and it was already packed, so the hard work is for later.
I gave the guys the address of our new house and after double-checking that we are not leaving anything behind they leave.
For the first time since I woke up, I sit down and take a deep breath. I sit Jack next to me, even though I know he is going to start crawling somewhere else in just a second. But I sit and I look around this empty house that was our home for a month or so.
Its big and open, very beautiful. Our new house is even bigger, it has a yard and everything I could have dreamed of. I'm happy - and tired - but mostly happy right now. I feel like my life is going somewhere, but deep down inside of me there's a feeling I can't erase: I don't want to be alone in the process.
Just to imagine having the house for myself and Jack, and the tiny thing inside of me. It's not going to be a home without Harry, even if he's gone for just a couple of months.
"Tatatata." Jack babbles, taking his hands to his mouth. I'm actually surprised he hans't moved yet.
"Yeah monkey, we should get going." I say, moving my eyes to him. He's so cute and grown.
Getting up from the floor and taking him with me, I take my bag and his in the kitchen and say goodbye to the place. While I buckle Jack in his seat I decide to get lunch in that place I went last week, it has great salads and has a nice view to the park and I have learned that babies like a view more than we do.
When we get there I sit in a table outside with the stroller facing the park. I order the same thing I ordered last time but with a smoothie this time.
While I wait for my food I give Jack a snack and I take my laptop out, the few times I have for myself - that are usually just a couple of minutes - I write. I've been doing it for the past two weeks and I can't wait to show Harry my progress. I don't know how he's going to react but I really hope he likes it.
That reminds me that he should be home tonight, before I start with the writing I text him to check up on him.
*Hi babe. We're excited to see you! At what time do you land?* I hit send and go back to my computer.
