Now. Wayne Manor, Gotham.
The helicopter began to land on the ground of Wayne Manor. Batman and Selina both thanked the wardens for their duty and services. "Make sure to bring those two to Blackgate!! We're off to go save Mr. Wayne now from the Joker!" Batman told them.
The helicopter flew away, as Batman and Selina ran inside the manor. The lights were off, making it hard for them to see where they were going. Selina managed to find the lights to the dining room and kitchen, turning them on.
"Oh god.." Selina said. Batman and Selina saw the kitchen and dining room were heavily trashed and messed with. Plates and pans were thrown across the floor, with liquids of milk and food splashed on the floor and walls as well. The refrigerator door was open, and the knife tray was thrashed with.
The couches were turned over, and bullet holes were struck in the windows. "It was Joker. He and Harley messed my place up to shreds," Batman told Selina. They needed to now find Alfred while they still had time.
Suddenly, they heard the gasps and yells of Alfred. "Master Wayne!!!" he managed to scream before being silenced again. Batman and Selina ran up the stairs.
They needed to save Alfred from Joker and Harley. "Stop right there Bats!!" Joker exclaimed. He then laughed as Batman and Selina paused dead in their tracks. Joker held his green-and-purple colored bullwhip pistol at Batman. The smoke had cleared from the opening of the gun.
Batman witnessed the horrific situation that took forth in the Wayne's bedroom. "Bruce Wayne, isn't it, Al? He IS the Batman?!" Joker asked a weakened Alfred. Batman realized Alfred was holding a gunshot wound in his hip. He laid on the ground, bleeding profusely.
Alfred didn't speak, and instead looked worriedly at Batman. "Master?....you t-told h-him?" Alfred asked. Batman shook his head. Selina was filled with grief. Harley held her at gunpoint as well.
"I'm sorry, Alfred. He found out himself back at Arkham," replied Batman. He then removed his mask, finding no other reason to wear it now that Joker and Harley knew who he really was. Just a millionaire named Bruce Wayne.
"You are Bruce Wayne. Batman makes Wayne," proclaimed Joker happily. He laughed, as he kept Bruce at gunpoint. "Say, Alfred...what would you say or do if it was your last day on Earth?" asked Joker. He didn't turn to face Alfred's body behind him, focusing more on keeping Bruce away with the pistol.
"What?" asked Alfred nervously. He was holding onto the wound tightly, but bits of blood seeped out of his blood-filled hand. "Your last day on Earth, what would you do?" asked Joker again.
Harley made a sigh as she licked her lips, keeping her gun pointed at Selina. "I would apologize to my master for everything. For allowing him to go out to get you and your goons. For waiting here at the manor, rather than just escaping. Buying time. I'm so sorry, Bruce...for your parents sake, and for you. I f-failed you," wept Alfred.
Bruce shed a tear. He walked a step forward, but Joker stopped him. "Ah ah ah! No more steps or someone here is getting one of their brains blown out! AHAHA!" Joker exclaimed. He tiptoed backwards to Alfred's direction, still keeping his attention towards Bruce.
"Just let him go. Shoot me," uttered Bruce. Selina tried to stop him from convincing the mad clown, but Bruce didn't back down.
"Shoot me, because I'm not worth keeping!! You wanted me, now you have me, Joker. Your joke has exploded. Shoot me instead. Keep my butler alive, please. He's all I got," begged Bruce.
Joker raised his eyebrows on his pale-white face. "Have a laugh!!" he exclaimed and turned his gun on Alfred, shooting him again in the chest. The sound of the gunshot made Bruce freak.
"NO!!!" Bruce screamed in fury. He then lunged at Joker, but Harley got in the way. He instead tackled Harley to the ground. Joker laughed several times. Selina then heard the GCPD's cries coming up the stairs.
Bruce began punching Harley in the face, over and over again. He used his adrenaline strength to repeatedly strike her in the face. She bled all over the place. He took out one of his Batarangs and then threw it at Joker. It pierced itself into his arm.
Joker howled in pain, dropping the pistol to the ground. "Harley!! Let's go!!" he screamed to his girlfriend. Harley was badly injured, but Joker dragged her carelessly away from Bruce.
Selina grappled Bruce to the ground to keep him restrained. "BRUCE! BRUCE! GORDON IS HERE, THEY'LL CHASE THEM DOWN!! THEY'RE NOT GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!" she exclaimed to him. Bruce let go of his anger.
Commissioner Gordon and the GCPD officers ran into the bedroom. "Joker and Harley!! They're right outside!!" yelled Bruce. Gordon nodded, listening to his directions. They sent a squadron outside the manor.
The helicopter that Joker and Harley were accompanied in, began to fly away. The GCPD took out their machine guns and began firing at the helicopter. Joker laughed at the sight of this, amazed. Harley was barely breathing, bleeding all over. "Oh heal up baby," he told her.
The pilot of the helicopter, one of Joker's goons, began steering the helicopter away from the GCPD's rain of bullets. They successfully escaped the night. "Goddamn it," Gordon said to himself.
He walked back inside Wayne Manor. Bruce made sure he removed his Batman suit quickly before GCPD officers arrived back inside, Selina followed through with the same tactic.
He held Alfred in his arms. "Oh god...oh god...Alfred," Bruce wept as he held the dying elderly butler. Alfred couldn't stop breathing so heavily. "I did my best," Bruce said to Alfred.
He nodded to himself and teared up some more. Alfred raised his bleeding hand to Bruce's crying and reddened cheek. "W-we did our b-best," Alfred clarified him.
Selina comforted Bruce behind him. She put her head against Bruce's shoulder. "Joker and Harley will not get away with this...I swear on my life, Alfred. The legacy lives on," Bruce quickly told his butler. Alfred smiled, crying as well. The pool of blood surrounded the three of them.
Alfred then fluttered his eyes shut, taking the last of his breath. Bruce cried some more, knowing that the last person in his past life...was now deceased. "Oh no...Alfred...oh goodness," remarked Selina sadly.
Gordon and the GCPD walked in solemnly. "Who died?" asked Gordon. Bruce looked up at the officers in tears. "My butler. The one there for me is gone," he told them. Gordon took his detective brimmed hat and knelt down beside Selina and Bruce. He mourned with them.
"I'm sorry for your loss," said Gordon. Bruce thanked him quietly. "I know what it's like to lose. I lost my wife to that monster as well," Gordon told him. Bruce remembered just a few nights ago that Barbara Gordon died of a stroke with the food poisoning.
"I'm sorry...s-sorry. Gordon, both your wife and my butler deserve a proper funeral. Tomorrow," Bruce told him. Gordon agreed, nodding. "Where did Batman go anyway?" he asked Bruce.
"He and the Catwoman left Arkham. They might be on the hunt for Joker somewhere, not too sure," replied Bruce. He had to lie again. Gordon believed him.
The GCPD helped lift Alfred's dead corpse out of the manor to be checked on at the Gotham Hospital. "We lost so much, Selina. Vicki, Dick, and Alfred. Everyone we ever loved is dead," reminded Bruce.
He and Selina calmly held hands as they watched the police cars, news trucks, and ambulances surround Wayne Manor. "I love you, Bruce. I'll never leave you," Selina told him. Bruce said the same. They kissed.
Bruce was full of grief. He wasn't going to be the same anymore. He needed to hunt down the Joker and Harley, for avenging the deaths of Vicki Vale, Dick Grayson, and now Alfred Pennyworth. He vowed to save Gotham and its remaining citizens if Joker returned in the darkness.
He still was...the Batman.
