Pretty in Pink and An Awkward Realization
Leo yawned and stretched. Yay. Another day to almost be killed. He ran his fingers through his hair and looked around. Just the same old engine room. Nothing much different. Except…
“Guys!” Leo called angrily. “Why is the engine PINK?!”
“Pink?” Someone called back, probably Annabeth.
“Yeah! It’s pink! Who painted my baby pink?!” he stood up and stalked out of the engine room, steam coming out of his ears. “I swear, if you guys have decided that the Argo II’s paint job isn’t good enough, I’m gonna-” Leo faltered. His friends were tied up to the mast. The ship was still pink. And a lady, who kept shifting into something even more beautiful, was standing next to his friends, looking at Leo expectantly.
“Hello Leo,” she said, her voice soothing.
“Uh… hi?” He said while waving slightly. “what are you doing on my ship?” The lady laughed. It reminded me of someone… Calypso, maybe.
“Oh, Leo Leo Leo…You don’t understand what is going on, do you?”
“Well, if you’re so smart, tell me why my ship is pink!” Leo demanded, stomping his foot. His fingers caught ablaze. The lady just shook her head.
“Oh, son of Hephaestus. It seems like my love magic isn’t working on you… yet.” Leo was confused. His nose caught flame, but he didn’t even snuff it out.
“Love magic?”
“Oh yes. I do have a very persuasive voice. And a really pretty hairstyle.” Her body shimmered and she looked like the person I wanted to so desperately see.
Calypso.
She was as beautiful as ever. Her hair was pulled back into a loose low ponytail. She was wearing the same outfit I had left her in. A white blouse, jeans, and sandals. I realized I was staring.
I blinked a few times then looked away. “Stop messing with my brain, goddess.”
“Oh, now it kicks in. You have a very slow brain, Leo.” The goddess said, observing her form. “I knew you fell for Calypso! You two are just so perfect for each other!”
Percy was now staring. He studied the goddess, in the form of Calypso, then looked over at Leo. An understanding dawned in his eyes. Annabeth caught on. Piper did as well. Soon, every one of the seven knew Leo’s secret. That was where he went. That was why he was lovesick.
“Aphrodite,” Leo said, his voice taking on a dangerous tone. “Stop messing with my head and fix my ship.”
“But pink looks so good! It totally matches!” She winked at Leo. He balled his fists.
“Last warning, goddess, before I melt that form right off of you.” Aphrodite laughed.
“You demigods are just so feisty these days! I’m leaving, don’t worry.” Aphrodite snapped her fingers and left.
But the Argo II was still pink.
"Curse you!" Leo spat. He stalked over to his controls. Of course they were pink AND sparkly.
"Good thing Nico left," he muttered, flipping a switch to talk to Festus. "Hey buddy?" He asked. "Could you do a quick paint repair?" Festus creaked 'no' in return. Leo cursed. "Why does the goddess of love always have to paint my stuff pink?!"
He realized everyone was staring at him.
"What? Is my face pink?" Percy shook his head in disbelief.
"You found Calypso?" That’s when the situation got awkward.
“Uhh…” Leo searched for the right words. “... maybe?” Annabeth shot Percy a look, like: ‘Don’t you dare bring up that pain again’.
“Oh,” Percy replied, following Annabeth’s warning. “All I have to say is: Good luck man.” Leo nodded sadly, then turned toward the intercom. He yelped when he saw the pink panther staring at him.
“CURSE YOU APHRODITE!!!!!!!!!!”
