"..." It had been awhile since our little spat last night. But the random thunderous boom outside this makeshift hut was enough to cause me to get up off the grass mat. Mileena was still napping on the other mat a few feet in front of me. But...come thunder...hm.

I stood up, walking towards the hut door, opening it to find...him.

"Ortega...I bring news,"

Looking behind me, to the still sleeping ex-Empress, I tried to assume a façade, something that would have him ignore the fact she was still alive. Walking outside into the morning sunrise, I shut the door, and stood ahead, face to face with Raiden.

"I'm listening, Thunder God. Make it quick," I told him, animosity still very apparent.

"Shinook's Amulet, the very same used by Mileena. Kano, an Earthrealmer, managed to steal it, yet, I do not believe even he would be capable of such a feat of thievery," He responded, clearly at an impasse. "I must investigate these 'snares', as for not to have another event like this,"

"Snares?"

"Just a small name, for something much more, vile."

"Hm...I see, but what help would I be?" I asked, shaking my head. He only sighed.

"Kagu-Sachi...those abilities? It was a rare case, but you have his essence apart of you now," He explained, me being very bemused, yet intrigued in how these flames came to be apart of my being. "He was one of the few who were killed by Shinook. Now, gods can't be killed, at least not permanently. His body was turned to ashes...his ashes were spread among a monolith...one that you are very familiar with,"

"The...The Spire? It was an old shrine..." I realized, remembering the monument, the one where every mage went to train in the cryptic arts. I never thought a god would be apart of that, especially a place that is Kohodrum. I must've really gotten lucky.

"Yes. From my theory, after pondering it heavily, I can assess that when your soul breifly went into the ether, his essence fused with your dying vessel, giving you a chance at another life. Shang Tsung, as I come to realize, just gave you partial help,"

I looked at my hands, weighing the information I had just been told by the Thunder God, the fact that Shnag Tsung wasn't the reason I had survived so long. He only just gave me limbs, the actual divine power came from the Ashen God. Wow...clearly, this is some joke that I'm not getting. Me, half a god, yet not born like a demigod...feels like cheating. Yet, this makes it plausible. And Shinnook is a threat to me, regardless of how I feel about Raiden.

That breif recollection was interrupted by a sai, flying past me, and into Raiden...well, not really, he simply grabbed it, his reflexes shing through. His eyes, inspecting the piece, had their own discovery; Mileena was alive and well.

"Thunder God!" Her angry snarl...not a good sign of what she'll do. And even worse, her amber eyes were also on me. "YOU! What are you doing fraternizing with my enemy,"

"You never said he was..."

"Mileena? How...you surprise me, Ortega. I must question your judgment on bringing her back; her spirit is cold, and filled with evil,"

"Who said I was the good guy in this? She died, like you said before. Just happened to get her a new body," I responded, glaring his way. "Mileena, stand down. He isn't worth the time,"

"What?!" She growled, ignoring me, as she decided to tele-kick into Raiden. "I won't listen to that drabble...this 'God' will pay!"

Soon, I saw Mileena, attempt to fight Raiden. She wasn't capable in the slightest, her anger betraying any skill she had to offer. I couldn't watch this happen, so I jumped in, my left hand blocking a punch from the God, and my other, grasping a kick from Mileena, meant for Raiden.
