Chapter 2
My instinct was right. Well, of course it was, I'm psychic. Anyway, I got to the party, and Brandon pulled me up on the stage. I was so confused that I wouldn't have been surprised if a leprechaun had jumped out of nowhere and proposed to me.
He then starts telling everyone that I'm a crazy freak who talks to myself all the time. A large lump forms in my throat, Then it hits me- the ghost in Ms. Carfola's room. It was after class and I was completing a test when I sensed a ghost. Brandon stood outside and video taped the whole exchange. How he got there, or knew I was there is beyond my knowledge. The video shows me talking to the ghost, or rather, the wall. This ghost had been nice, and I felt like venting. I started talking about Brandon, how he was a total jerk but I loved his eyes. My friends point behind me and I see it on a huge screen. The tears that started rolling down my cheeks felt like needles. How could I have been so stupid!? I ran out of that room so fast, people were still looking up at the stage expecting me to be there.
On my way home, I felt someone grab my shoulder. "What!?" I snapped. I turned my head, preparing to give this innocent bystander the meanest glare I could, considering what had just happened and all.....but my face immediately softened once I saw this person. I didn't even know his name, but he was gorgeous. He had a kind smile on his face.
"What's the matter?" He said to me, in an Irish accent worth swooning for. He looked genuinely concerned, too.
"What's the matter?! One of the most popular guys in school just revealed exactly how freaky I am," I said between sobs. My eyes burned and I had a raging headache.
"How could you be a freak?" He wiped the tears from my eyes, and looked strait into them. "If you want to talk, I am ready to listen," he smiled. I smiled back the best smile I could muster.
"Maybe tomorrow?" I asked, I smiled weakly and told him my phone number with my quivering voice.
"Of course. I will see you tomorrow, then. My name is Erick, by the way."
I got home and looked in my mirror. My piercing green eyes were puffy and red, and my mascara had run down my cheeks. I looked like a clown. A depressed clown. That just made me cry more. My phone buzzed. I looked at it and read it as best as I could. It was from Riley. "Brandon is such a jerk. Who were you talking to anyway? Would you like me to come over? We can talk about it and plot revenge!" More tears drained from my eyes and rolled down my cheeks, leaving dark trails, as I remembered exactly why I was crying. Just then my phone buzzes again. "Hey Scarlett. Can I come over? I have something I want to tell you." It was from Alice. I typed back "Sure, if you don't mind being seen with a puffy-eyed teenage freak." I sniffled, and my phone buzzed about 10 more times, but my vision was too blurred by the fresh tears to see anything. I curled up on my bed with a blanket and pulled my knees tightly to my chest as I stared blankly at the wall. The tears kept coming, drenching my shirt.
About fifteen minutes later, my doorbell rang. It was Alice, holding a stuffed dinosaur. I opened the door and she walked in. She handed me the little dinosaur and grinned. She was wearing tight jeans and a Green Day shirt. Her gorgeous red hair was straightened and her bangs swept perfectly across her fluorescent blue eyes.
We walked up to my room and sat on my bed. I wiped my eys when she blurted out "I know you were talking to a ghost. We have the same ability. Now we need to figure out a way to cover this up. Brandon is such a loser." I was stunned. I fell into her arms, glad to have someone to help me and understand me. Finally, after sixteen years of waiting. How had I not found out about this? I wiped my eyes and looked up to her smiling down at me. We both burst out laughing.
