Chapter 15

Scarlett P.O.V

I pulled away as the door swung open to reveal Alice, and...Nate was my guess.

She mouthed a quick 'sorry' before walking through the door with him.

"Scarlett, this is Nate. Nate, this is Scarlett. My surrogate sister. And this is Erick." Alice introduced us all.

Nate shook my hand and Erick's. A bit formal, but maybe this guy is better than the rest. He is not ugly, that's for sure. Definitely Alice's type. Grey skinny jeans, dark hair swept to one side. Leather Jacket. You get my picture. Alice pulled Nate up the stairs and I stared at Erick. My boyfriend. I'll have to get used to that.

"Love, I'll have to be going soon. I'll see you on Monday. Let's go out to dinner that night," He offered. I smiled graciously and nodded.

"Alright. Bye," I said, opening the door for him.

He left after a quick hug, and I went back upstairs. I pulled on my pajama pants. Nate and Scarlett were being completely silent, though I chose not to investigate. I sat on my bed, and Tanzie appeared right next to me, scaring the living daylights out of me.

"He's a keeper!" Tanzie said. I laughed.

"What makes you say that?" I asked.

"Well, first of all, he brought you flowers for no apparent reason. Second, he could see me! Third, he introduced himself, to a stranger, as your boyfriend. Even though you guys have not even really gone out. And lastly, he likes you. A lot." I smiled.

"Yup, I guess. Not to mention he has an Irish accent," I added. We laughed together this time. "So Tanzie. Are you just going to live on earth? You aren't going to move on?" I questioned.

"I can't. I still have business left here." She said, putting finger quotes around business.

"I see you read the handbook," I joked.

"Nope. It's just how it goes. I can't move on until I'm ready too. Ready to let go, done with what I didn't have time to do," She said. I nodded.

"I have school tomorrow, Tanz. I better be going to bed now." I said. She got up and waved before disappearing.

I heard my mom come through the front door just before I dozed off.

Alice's P.O.V

I left the house and drove my dad's car-one of the few things he left me- to Nate's house. He had asked me out to see a movie, and I have nothing better to do, so I complied. I pulled up as he left his front door. He came around to my side of the car and opened my door for me, so I could get out. He shut it and we made our way to his car. He opened the passenger door for me yet again, and walked around to his side.

"Hi. How are you?" He started, running his fingers through his dark hair.

"Fine, thanks for asking. You?" I turned towards him, looked him straight in his brown eyes, and smiled.

"Great, now that I'm with you," he said, pretty sincerely. So he's sweet AND chivalrous. I would have never guessed by his choice of style. The rest of the ride was quiet until we pulled up to the movie theater.

"What should we see?" I asked.

"You pick. I don't really care." He said. I chose the one comedy up there. The rest had to do with ghosts, sappy love stories, or dramas. As I pulled out my wallet to pay, he shook his head and paid for me. He took the two tickets and ushered me into the theater. We walked to the concession stand and got a big bucket of popcorn and two medium drinks, which he paid for yet again. He must be rich! We walked towards a row in the back, and took our seats in the middle of the row.

An hour and a half later, we filed out of the theater and threw away our trash. We walked out to the car and I stopped before he opened my door. "Thanks, Nate. Thanks a lot."

He smiled and opened my door.

"Any time, Alice." We drove off, and he started conversation. "So. What's your family like?" I hesitated at this one.

"Well, my dad recently died of alcohol poisoning. My mom left me when I was very little. I live with Scarlett and her mom," I explained. This kind of took him off guard, but he played it well.

"Scarlett Schales?" He asked.

"Yup. That's the one." We pulled up to his house, and he said that he'd follow me home. I got out of his car and into mine and headed home.

I asked him to come inside with me. I swung open the door to see Scarlett and Erick...kissing? Since when are they going out? I mouthed a sorry to Scarlett, and I introduced everyone. I then went upstairs with Nate, and call me daring, but I took him into my room.

Don't get any ideas, honestly, we just played cards before he left through the window when Scarlett's mom came home. How he got down from up there I will never know. I fell asleep minutes after he left.

Scarlett P.O.V

I awoke the next morning to my alarm blaring. I quickly got ready before pouring myself a cup of coffee and heading to my car. I drove to school, remembering we only have a week left. I finished off my coffee, and got out of the car.

I have English class first, and I had worked really hard on my research paper on the paranormal. The day went by rather quickly, until sixth period Citizens Law rolled around. That class always drags on forever. Once the bell rang I gathered my stuff and found Erick waiting by my locker.

"Hello beautiful," He greeted me. I smiled.

"Hey handsome." I spun my combination and put away my books.

"Were still on for tonight, right?" He asked.

"Yup," I said.

"Great. I'll pick you up at 7?" He confirmed.

"Sounds great!" I exclaimed. He walked me out to my car.

"See you later." He said. I nodded before shutting the door and fitting the key into the ignition. I backed out of the parking spack and drove home.

I was putting they key in my front door when it flew out of my hand. Now, I did not drop it. I rolled my eyes. "Really? Pick it-" I started as I turned around, but stopped abruptly at the sight before me.
