CHAPTER 23

************************

RECAP of Chapter 22:

Tegan and Stefan distributed the food and I took my pain medicine while Hannah sat with her coffee giggling to herself every once in a while.

A few hours later it was late and I was tired from surgery and today's excitements, so Stefan tucked me in when my eyes started to drop from their heaviness.

"Sweet dreams, I love you." Stefan said kissing my forehead affectionately.

"Love you too." I said yawning and fell into a deep sleep.

I woke up the next morning to have a nurse shaking me. I had the urge to punch her partly because of my reflex and partly because she woke me up.

I sat up groggily and let her remove the stupid IV and other wires that were hooked to me. She checked the stitches and told me to get changed. I got out of the horrid hospital gown and put it in the laundry and changed into loose jeans and a baggy t-shirt that one of the three outside my door probably got me.

It hurt a little to walk but I could manage. I winced a little every few steps and finally made it to the front desk where Stefan was signing me out and the girls were conversing in the waiting room. I made it to Stefan and he looked down at me for a second before going back to signing me out. When he finished he turned around to face me and picked me up bridal style.

"No! Put me down!" I squealed.

"No, you aren't walking in your condition."

"What condition?! I am perfectly able to walk. Besides the doctor told me I have to walk a little every day anyway."

"I don't care."

I glared at him and he just gave me an award winning smile. There was no use in fighting with him so I sighed and leaned my head on his chest as he gathered the girls.

We made it to the car and Stefan carefully set me in the front seat and buckled me up. Me, being the stubborn person I am, unbuckled the seat belt and buckled it again myself. He chuckled shaking his head and closed the door and walked to the driver's seat.

Once we got back home Stefan carried me up to our room and laid me on the bed.

"I'm not a child you know." I told him.

"I know, but you are my injured fiancée."

I sighed exasperated and sunk into the comfy mattress. Stefan wandered over to the other side of the bed and crawled over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist carefully not to hurt the parts of my stomach where they had made the incisions and leaned his head on my shoulder. He moved his thumb

in slow circles on my waist, staring at my face.

"What?" I asked self-consciously.

"I can heal you right now if you want." Stefan stated.

"That would have been nice to know a long time ago." I said irritated.

"Do you want me to heal you or not?"

"Fine, whatever." I agreed trying to sound uninterested, just to see how Stefan would react to my lack in interest in my health.

"You should care more about your health." Stefan said sternly.

"I'm sorry mother." I murmured, cracking a smile.

"I am for one thing not your mother!" Stefan said with mock horror weaved into his features.
