Chapter 8: Leaving ASAP

Hallie's P.O.V:

I woke up to the sounds of sobbing and crying. I rub my eyes and sit up. I noticed that I was cuddling a pillow. Was someone sleeping next to me? I go to lay back down when Parker walks back in and hugs me very tightly. I hug her back, still not understanding what was going on. "P-Parker? Wh-What's wr-wrong?" She sobs a bit longer before she makes eye contact and sobs through her words. "Oh Hallie! You *sob* you don't know what happened! Duncan, Abby, Toni, *sob* and Tracy! They're, they're *sob* DEAD!!!!!" Parker starts full out crying again. I stare at her. No... they can't be.... They couldn't have died. I feel tears run down my cheeks. I can't speak, my throat is caught, with the sobs that I should have, but trying to keep them down. Parker hugs me and repeats the phrase " I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" over and over.

I let go of our hug and lay back down in the bed. Talon walks in, careful to not disturb me. "Parker, we need to take off. I recognized the symbol on the building- STAD and their crazy robots are behind the burning of the store. We need to move and find somewhere else to live." Parker nods and they leave. I cuddle to the blanket and finally let my tears drop. I start to sob unwillingly. Abby....Toni......Tracy.....Duncan..... They can't be dead. No way would they go without a fight. I yell out, crying to the heavens. What kind of people would take them from me? How could they do this to me? They took my support, my friends. They have stolen a piece of my heart... I look over to the drawer. I open the top drawer to see a photo album. I open it to see a picture of us, all of us, together. It was from graduation. We were all smiling. You guys will always be close to my heart.

Talon's P.O.V:

I laugh in my head. Mission complete. I pack the trucks and prepare to head out. I go to gather the rest of the food when I heard a shout coming from inside of the house. I run into the house to see Hallie cuddling a photo to her chest. Her cheeks are stained with tears, as they are still falling. She looks up once she notices that I was standing in the doorway. "Hallie. It's time to get in the car." She shakes her head. "W-what if they sur-survived? They wouldn't kn-know where we a-are. Shouldn't w-we stay?" I walk over to her and kneel in front of her. "Hallie. Please. Let them go. They are gone. Please get in the car. I don't want you to suffer with the idea that they could be alive." She sniffs and looks to the photo. I walk over to her and hold her hand. "Come on." I stand her up and move her towards the car. I lay her down and place a spare pillow underneath her head. Parker walked up behind me with Hallie's blanket. She placed in Hallie's hands, and she immediately cuddles underneath. Sleep tight, Hallie. By tomorrow, we will be far away from Shaker.
