"You're kidding, right?"

I was sitting in a booth with Will at Bills. I had just told him that my mom was making me go to Midtown for the rest of high school.

"I wish I was." I sighed and dipped a fry in my milkshake. Will rolled his eyes and looked away. He thought it was disgusting whenever I did this, but it tasted amazing to me.

"How am I supposed to pick on you for being a stupid genius at school if your not there?" I rolled my eyes at him this time. He was always making fun of me for having no common sense, even though I was one of the smartest kids at our school.

"Don't roll your eyes, I'm serious. You can't leave me alone with those boring people. How am I supposed to survive without you?" He laughed and I rolled my eyes again.

He was the captain of the basketball team and one of the most popular kids in school. He wasn't a jerk though, like popular people normally are. When I showed up freshman year, everyone already knew each other from middle school. I was used to being the new kid, but I still wasn't very good at making friends. Fortunately, Will was not as shy as I was. He was new too, and had also moved most of his life. His dad worked for a company, named Kopton Industries, where he was constantly moving around the country.

"At least you will be at home with all your nerd friends." He smiled at me and I punched his shoulder across the table. "Ow!" He fake complained, rubbing his shoulder.

"I don't want to go, Will." I looked out the window, watching the people walking past.

"Hey, look at me." He grabbed my hand across the table. I turned my head back to him, and looked into his bright blue eyes that were filled with sincerity. "I know you don't realize it right now, but this could be the best thing to ever happen to you."

I looked at him, not sure what to say. I knew he was right, but I didn't want to leave him. He had been my best friend for two years, but it felt like it had been forever. I had been through his parents' divorce with him. Ever since, he hadn't been the same, and I was worried me leaving would be too much for him.

"But what about you?" I felt my eyes start to water, but I blinked tears away, not wanting to cry in public.

Will squeezed my hand. "Don't worry about me. I'll be fine."

I knew he was lying, trying to stay strong for me. He might have been considered popular, but he never really hung out with anyone besides me. He always said that I was his only true friend, everyone else only hanging around him because he was rich or popular.

I looked down, and a tear fell from my eye.

"Hey, don't cry." He raises his hand and wipes the tear from my face.

"I'll miss you." I look at him again, but quickly look out the window, not wanting to cry again.

"And I'll miss you too, but it's not like I won't ever see you again. You're not moving are you?"

I shook my head, still not looking at him. I took a sip of my shake, only to realize it was empty.

"Do you want another? I'd offer you mine, but I know you don't like chocolate."

I shook my head again, and pushed the glass away.

"I'm going to be ok, I promise." Using his hand, he moved my head so that I was looking at him. He smiled at me, and I forced myself to smile back.

"Would you like anything else?" The waitress smiled at us, holding her notepad at the ready.

"I think we're fine, thank you though." He smiled warmly at her. She nodded her head and gestured toward our empty plates and glasses. We stacked them up and pushed them toward her. She placed the check down and picked them up.

"Come on, let's go." He places the money down on the table and we stand up. He opens the door for me and I walk through.

"What do you want to do now?" He asks, gesturing around with his hands.

I shrugged. "I don't know, I'm kinda tired. I think I might just head home."

"Okay." He says, disappointment clear in his voice. "I'll walk you home."
