Tears filled my eyes just looking at him. I walked over and stood right next to his bed. His hair was all over the place, and now that I was up close I could see dirt stains on his face.
"Is he oka-?" I choked on my words. I looked around now, realizing I was surrounded by the Avengers. They all looked at me with concerned looks, none of them saying anything. I bent down, grabbing Peter's hand, and placed my chin on his arm, looking up at his face.
"What's wrong with him?" Tears started to slide down my cheeks.
"He's in a coma," Tony said as if it wasn't soul-crushing news.
I looked up at everyone through the tears in my eyes. They all had looks of pity on their faces.
"When is he gonna wake up?" No one said anything. "Is he even going to wake up?" I tried to stop crying, but I couldn't.
"We don't know. We don't know what happened to him." Tony replies finally. "We also don't know where Will is, or where the people who did this to Will are. That means you still aren't safe."
I let go of Peter's hand and stood up, wiping the tears out of my eyes. "Does that mean that I'm going to have a constant bodyguard wherever I go?"
"Um, no. You won't be going anywhere to need one," Tony said.
"What do you mean I'm not going to be needing one? I have this thing called school that I have to go to."
"Until we know that no one is trying to hurt you and your mom, you are going to stay here," Steve said.
"What? We can't do that! She has a job and I have school! We can't just stop our lives!"
"I'm sorry kid, but Peter would kill me if I let anything happen to you. I'll talk to the school and have them send over your stuff. Also, I'll hire your mom as my new chef."
I just looked at him, not saying anything. He acted like just because he had all these connections that he can fix problems and everything would be fine. But, he's not wrong. Everything wasn't fine. I wasn't fine.
"I'll, um, go send Happy over to get your mom and some stuff. Is there anything else you need?" Tony asked.
"You mean besides Peter to wake up and my life to return to normal?" I wasn't sad anymore, I was angry. Tony just looked away from me.
"Look," Natasha came over and put her hands on my shoulders, "I know this is all a lot to take in, and I know you don't even know any of us, but if what Peter says is true, you are a very strong person. You'll get through this, I promise."
"Thanks," I wiped the last tear off of my cheek. "I think I kinda want to be alone now though."
They all nodded and headed out of the room, leaving me there with Peter. I walked over to him and grabbed his hand again.
"Hey, Parker. I know you probably can't hear me right now, but I really need someone to talk to."
I looked at him, wishing he would respond, but of course, he didn't. He just laid there peacefully. I reached up and brushed some of his hair out of his face, but as soon as I moved my hand it fell right back in front of his face.
"Peter, I just wish you would wake up." As soon as I started I began to cry again. "Everything's just been so crazy and everyone is trying to be nice about it but I just can't do it anymore. I just really need you right now." I placed my forehead on his arm, squeezing his hand. I stayed that way for a few seconds until suddenly I felt something.
Peter had squeezed my hand back.
