Devon's POV
"You." We both spoke at the same time; probably equally shocked. The boy with black hair and blue eyes from the hiking trails stands before me. The boy who makes me feel awkward and self conscious. The boy that gave me a boner when I was in the shower.... No, no. That had to have just been a coincidence. Yeah, coincidence.
"Have you guys met?" Kate asked, seemingly a bit confused.
"Nah, but the gang and I stumbled upon his group of friends at the hiking trails the other day. We weren't introduced, though." Benji answered his mother, although his eyes never leave mine. His big, shiny, crystal blue eyes.
"Well that's good I guess. Why don't you guys go do something? Like what about the little café down the road?" Dad suggested, coming up behind mom, kissing her cheek and wrapping his arms around her waist. His intent stare at me I can only guess is because he knows that he just overstepped a huge boundary of mine. I hate meeting new people. It took me 2 years to warm up to Kate, but now I have to live with a complete stranger? My dad should know better than suggesting for us to hang out.
"No, that's quite alright. I am tired from the wedding and it's late so I would like to go to sleep." I answered, glaring at dad the whole time. I see Kate nod, probably understanding why I denied the offer.
"Benji, show him to his room." Kate said, pulling away from dad and going into the bathroom. The blue eyed boy looks at me and motions for me to follow him. I hesitantly follow his lead, where he brings me upstairs to where it seems to be the place where all of the bedrooms are. He opens one of them and steps inside, turning on the light.
"This is your room." He said, motioning to the new room. It is large in size, holding a queen size bed, two large dressers, a book case, a computer desk, and a closet. I walk over to the computer desk and run my fingers over the slick and shiny screen.
"This is all mine?" I ask, with a giddy smile.
"Yeah. That's my old computer. It still works great, it's just that my grandparents spoil me so I got a new one last Christmas." The boy answered. I nod, walking over to the bed and sitting down on it. Comfortable.
"Thank you." I breathe, and take off my dress shoes.
"No problem. My room is right on the side of yours so if you need anything feel free to just come inside. Good night." The boy said, leaving my room and quietly closing the door.
He's a lot better than what I originally assumed he would be like.
Maybe we can actually be brothers.
Benji's POV
The next morning, I wake up to my cell phone screaming for me to answer it. I groan, and roll over in bed to reach for it. Without checking the caller ID, I answer the phone and press it to my ear.
"Hello?" I mumble, almost fully asleep again.
"Good morning!" Amy's peppy, high pitched voice yelled from the other line.
"Morning, Amy. Listen, I'm uh- erm, still sleeping so I'll catch you later." I murmured, the phone slipping from my hands.
"No! Benji this is important! What's your stepbrother like? I need to know!" Amy rushed, waking me up slightly.
"He's great. Now can I go back to sleep?" I answered
"Ugh. Fine. Call me when you wake up." Amy said, hanging up the phone with a huff. I sigh, knowing that she's probably going to be mad that I rushed the phone call. I place my phone back onto my nightstand and roll over in bed to get more comfortable. Before my dreams were able to consume me once again, my bedroom door was opened thus preventing me from finishing my sleep. I sit up, and rub at my eyes.
"Don't you people know how to let me sleep?" I growled, then look over to my door to see Devon standing there, now with his cheeks flushed.
"Oh, uh sorry." He said timidly, about to close the door again.
"No! No, it wasn't you! I mean, my girlfriend just called me and woke me up. Don't worry, I'm not the kind of guy to yell very much." Well, unless I'm hyper, but that's beside the point. Right?
"Oh. Okay. Well Kate wanted me to get you because she made breakfast." Devon said, backing away awkwardly.
I wonder what his problem is; I hope I didn't scare him too much from yelling.
I sigh, and stand up from my comfortable bed, and stretch my limbs before heading downstairs as well. As I look around at Mom, Dad and Devon, I notice that I'm the only one that has not changed out of my pajamas. Oh well.
"Morning, bud." James greeted.
"Good morning Benji." Mom smiled, sitting the plates of breakfast on the table.
"Good morning to all. I understand that you awaited for my arrival, so that you could worship me before we begin our meal. I thank you for that, and you may now begin the worshiping." I sighed, standing up straight and holding my arms out.
"Jesus Benji. Aren't you ever normal?" Mom groaned, sitting down and taking a large sip of her coffee.
"Well, I surely hope you don't mean that! You should be proud of how I turned out! After all, you are the woman that raised me from birth! If anything, I am the way that I am because of you!" I shouted, pumping my fist into the air. I look over, and notice that Devon is shaking uncomfortably and James is looking away snickering. I roll my eyes at James and his childishness, and take a seat beside my new brother.
"So, what are we doing today?" I asked, nudging his shoulder. He stares at me oddly, before swallowing.
"Well I'm moving. I don't know about you.." He said, then looking at James as if for help. James smiles, and sets his coffee down for a moment.
"Benji, why don't you help us! We could use the extra man. After all, you are probably the strongest person here. Would you so kindly lend us your godly persona for the day? I guess I would understand if you don't have time for peasants like us though.." James said. Throughout his speech my eyes became shiny and my hands flew up to my cheeks. Mom elbowed him, and muttered something that sounded like, Stop, you're encouraging it. I look over to Devon to see confusion written all over his face. Ah, the newcomer is unaware of my ways of life. He shall learn in time.
"Well, James. Father. Oh, dearest father! You have spoken so wisely this morning and I do believe that the god can make time for his people. I thank you for your very kind words." I respond, smiling.
"Well, that settles that! When you guys are ready to go, then meet me outside in the truck!" James said, dropping his dirty dishes in the sink and washing his hands just before going outside.
Still smiling, I get an odd feeling that today is going to be a nice day.
