Benji's POV
"Hey, Turn this up please, I love this song!" I exclaimed, hitting the two front seats in excitement as I hear the song Waterfalls by TLC come on to the radio. James laughs and shakes his head, but turns the volume up higher anyways.
"You like this?" Devon asked in surprise.
"Yup! I fell in love with it after I watched the movie We're The Millers. I don't like any other songs by these people, though." I answered, sitting back in the seat of James' car.
"Oh, yeah! I loved that movie, I remember going to see it when it was in the theaters." Devon said, turning around from the front seat to look at me.
"Dude, you're lucky! I had to wait until it came out on dvd before I was able to watch it."
"Yeah, it's an awesome movie." Devon smiled.
"What else do you like?" I asked, looking out the window watching all of the trees pass us by as we travel to James and Devon's house.
"Well I love comedies and action movies." Devon said, shifting in his seat once again, this time turning the radio volume down.
"Cool, I like comedies and horrors. But I feel like the horror movies that are newer aren't as good anymore." I shrugged, turning my attention back to Devon.
"Yeah, I've noticed. I don't really watch that many horror movies anymore either, because the new ones suck." Devon agreed.
"A lot of the comedy's aren't as good either. Like, I watched Identity Thief and I didn't think it was that great." I muttered, getting distracted by my vibrating phone as I try to continue talking to Devon. I pull it out and recognize the text to be from Amy.
Hey babe! What are you up to?
-Amy xx"Well we should have like a movie marathon with all of our favorite movies." Devon suggested
"Yeah, sure." I murmur, and reply to Amy right away.
Hey. I'm in the car with dad and Devon. You?
-Benji xx"Yeah, um, okay." Devon said, clearing his throat and facing forward in his seat once again; turning the radio volume up quite loud.
I wonder what his problem is, god damn.
Devon's POV
I was trying to have a nice conversation with Benji when he just flat out ignores me and texts on his phone.
I was actually willing to get to know him, a total stranger! Yet, he seemed to have not a care in the world.
Doesn't he understand how hard it is for me to talk to new people?
I sigh in frustration and look out the window, recognizing the center of my town. That means I'll only have to sit in this car with Benji for another minute. I can handle that.
Suddenly, I feel dad nudge my arm.
"You okay, bud?" He asked softly. I shake my head and turn away from him also.
"No." I whimpered, angrily wiping the tears away from my eyes. I hate that I'm so sensitive! But why would he ignore me like that?
"It's alright. We're here now." Dad whispered, reaching over with one hand and rubbing my shoulder.
I nod, and wipe my eyes one last time before unbuckling and getting out of the car. As my feet make contact with my house, or rather my old house, I get saddened. I grew up here; I thought, miserably.
I look back at Benji. He is walking very slow with his phone in hand, and a big smile on his face. I grumble something I don't even know the meaning of, and walk inside the front door.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Dad asked, placing his hand on my shoulder.
"Why doesn't Benji like me?" I asked quietly
"What? Benji loves you! He may not know you, but he was so excited to get a new step-brother. Trust me, he doesn't hate you or anything like that. Alright?" Dad asked, pulling me into a manly hug.
"Alright." I agreed, feeling my self esteem rise.
"Now, go up to your bedroom and pack all of your stuff into the truck. Do you want me to have Benji help me, or do you want him?" Dad asked
"I'll take him." I chuckle, and go upstairs to where my bedroom is.
Benji's POV
"Hey dad, what can I do to help?" I asked, as I finally made it inside his house.
"Benji..." He sighed, and turned to me.
"Yeah?"
"Be careful of Devon's feelings. Please." He said, surprising me with the sincerity of his voice.
"Well why wouldn't I? And what is this about?" I asked, crossing my arms and leaning up against the counter.
"You just tend to be the leader in things that you do with other people. And, well you are kinda bossy sometimes. I just want you to be extra careful with Devon's feelings because he's had a rough past. He-" James began but was soon interrupted by the loudness of Devon's voice.
"Dad! Stop! He doesn't need to know any of this, you're embarrassing me!" Devon screeched, then slammed what I assumed to be his bedroom door out of frustration.
"Ugh. Go help him pack please." James muttered, probably feeling bad for clearly overstepping a boundary between the father and son.
"You got it, dude!" I cheered, strutting my sexy body up the stairs and knocking on the only door that was closed.
"Go away." Devon said; a muffled sound coming from behind this locked door.
"Hey, it's alright. Maybe you'll feel better if you let me and all of my sexy glory inside-" I began, obviously just stating the facts when I hear the soft sound of Devon's laughter.
"You're funny.." He said, opening up his door and wiping his eyes. He was crying? What happened?
"Don't laugh, it's true! And are you alright? I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine, I'm fine. Just, I could use your help with packing all of my clothes.." He said nervously.
"What is up with you people and cutting me off before I finish my damn sentences? Jesus." I grumbled, but moving over to the closet and helping anyways.
