Benji's POV
"So, what exactly- ahem, what did you tell her?" I asked James nervously.
"He told me that you guys aren't close because you're step brothers. Which basically led me to believe that you guys are together. But then I thought that there was no way, since both of you have girlfriends and that you're straight. Not to mention that you share the same parents. So, do you care to explain? Cause I am all ears." Mom answered, folding her hands and setting them on top of the table. She gives Devon and I a look that kind of reminds me of a scowl, but mixed with surprise at the same time. I look over at Devon with pleading eyes, not knowing what is going to happen next.
"Well, you see-" Devon began, but he was interrupted by my mother.
"I'm sorry, Devon but I would like for Benji to answer my question. Thank you, though." Mom smiled politely at him before turning back to me.
"Well, first of all, mom I'm gay." I stated bluntly. All three of them that I'm sitting with gasped at how straightforward I was. It was kind of comical, actually.
"Alright. I'm okay with that. I've always told you that. Now, what's going on here?" She asked, motioning to me and Devon.
"Here are your meals! Is there anything I can get you?" Our waitress Julia, or was it Jocelyn? Well, I'm just awful at remembering names, okay? Anyways, out waitress interrupted the very important family talk that we're having by bringing our food. Each of us were handed our plates and we thanked the waitress.
"I'm sorry, but what was your name again?" I just had to ask.
"Jean." She smiled politely.
"Well, thank you Jean. And I believe we are all set for now." I smiled back. Don't look at me like that, I can pretend to be nice! She walked off after that, most likely to tend to her other customers.
"Where were you?" Mom asked, taking a bite of her shrimp scampi.
"Oh, right. Right." I mumbled. They each gave me a confused look because of my strange mumbling, but I ignored it. Instead of answering my mother's questions with words, I reached under the table and grabbed Devon's hand reassuringly. Then, all in one swift movement, I leaned up and kissed him. I heard the metallic clink come from Mom and James, who probably dropped their silverware in surprise. I moved my lips against Devon's for a moment too long, forgetting the sole purpose of the kiss in the first place. He kissed me back and I wanted so badly to just sit on his lap and play a casual game of tonsil hokey, but that would be highly inappropriate. Getting lost in the kiss with Devon, I forgot that we were in a restaurant and sitting with our parents, no less.
"Benjamin Cole Carter! I get the hint!" Mom whisper/yelled. In embarrassment I pulled away from Devon's addicting mouth and mentally scolded myself for letting that go a little too far.
"Oops. Well, so Devon and I-" I began, until my mom laughed and held up her hand as of telling me to shut up and stop talking right then and there.
"I get it Benji. Just please, for the love of god don't make out with him in front of me. It's weird watching my baby kiss people." Mom shuddered, followed by another bite of her shrimp.
"That's it? That's all you have to say?" I huffed, completely confused.
"Well, yeah. I've told you your whole life that I didn't care who you loved. Im not mad. Well maybe a little, but only because you didn't tell me right away." Mom shrugged. My jaw fell open and I looked at Devon who had a smirk on his face.
"Can you believe what you're hearing?" I whispered, though it was loud enough for mom and James to hear. James was laughing his ass off at my reaction to this, and mom was just amused by it all.
