There were times where it seemed that Aria was waking up. Her heart rate increased, muscles in her face twitched. But just as quickly as it came, she fell even deeper into unconsciousness.

Tethered to Aria like a lifeline, Jack refused to leave her side. He didn't sleep, he didn't eat. He was going to stay by her side until she woke up. Because she was going to wake up. She had to.

After the battle, the other Guardians returned to the Pole, waiting for Eir to alert them when Aria woke up. They had jobs to do, and it took their minds off worrying for the girl. And worrying for Jack if she didn't make it.

Eir kept her distance from Jack as much as she could. Her centuries of watching grieving people had taken its toll. The best thing she could do was let him hope in the way he needed to.

The worst thing about the waiting was that no matter what happened, the world continued on.
