Running Away

Camila slammed her fist against the wall, crying out in frustration and anger. "GOD DAMN IT!" She shouted.

She had been so close. She almost didn't feel it anymore. She almost didn't want her anymore. She was so close. It was all ruined though, years of effort. All ruined in a matter of seconds.

She glared down angrily at her cell phone, thinking about the events of the night before.

Not too much had happened, really. Camila just spent the entire night, from 8 p.m to 5 a.m on the phone with her. Camila hated it. She didn't hate being on the phone with the older girl. What she hated was the feelings that had resurfaced the moment she heard her voice on the other end.

She thought she was way past this, that after years of constant emotional pain, she'd finally managed to get over her.

She was wrong.

Camila took a deep breath and ran a hand through her hair. "Get your shit together, Cabello."

Her phone suddenly lit up, and Camila noticed she'd gotten a text from her.

"Fuck you," she muttered, despite knowing she wouldn't hear.

After five minutes, she gave in and dove for the device, quickly unlocking it to view the message.

From Jergi-
Hey, Camz, are you up yet?
Received at 7:39 a.m.

Camila took in a shaky breath and typed a response, rereading it twice before sending it.

To Jergi-
Yeah, what's up

She sat patiently, waiting for another text, and her thoughts soon drifted to her. Not anything in particular, just everything about her.

She thought about the deep pools of emerald green that she would stare into and get lost in. The light specks of gold scattered through the green. How expressive they were when she was explaining her thoughts and ideas and beliefs and dreams.

She thought about how beautiful her smile was. Camila swore to herself, she'd do just about anything to see that smile of hers. And she was so self-conscious about it. Camila couldn't understand why, because her smile was the most gorgeous thing she'd ever had the pleasure of viewing.

She thought about her lips. Camila would sometimes find herself staring at her lips as she spoke. They were such a nice color, a perfect shade of natural pale pink. She wanted nothing more than to kiss those lips, at least once. The fact that she couldn't drive the younger girl mad.

She thought about the sound of her voice and laugh. Her laugh was music to Camila's ears and her voice... That was what heaven sounded like. Her voice was slightly rough and scratchy, but it had the biggest effect on her of all. She would wish before bed each night to someday fall asleep to the sound of her voice, not just over the phone, but right beside her, in real life.

Her phone went off, snapping her out of her thoughts.

From Jergi-
Are you in love with me?
Received at 7:50 a.m.

Camila froze.

From Jergi-
Please tell me the truth so we can talk about this properly...
Received at 7:50 a.m.

She had no clue how to answer. Was she really that obvious? What gave it away? How long has she known? How did she even begin to think it?

To Jergi-
Um no, why?
Sent at 7:51 a.m.

From Jergi-
I see the way you look at me, Camz. I've seen texts between you and Mani about how you feel about me. I didn't believe it at first, but...
Received at 7:52 a.m.

From Jergi-
It's just so obvious
Received at 7:52 a.m.

'It's obvious?' Camila thought, 'How obvious? What the fuck?'

To Jergi-
I'm sorry... I didn't want you to know

Camila frowned as her phone began ringing. Of course she was calling. But Camila took a deep breath and hit answer.

"Hello?"

"I want a complete honest answer. Are you in love with me?"

"Yes," Camila said, her voice shaky.

Lauren was silent, which terrified Camila. After a minute, she spoke quietly. "Thank you for being honest," she whispered, and hung up.

Camila sat silently on her bed, staring at her wall, before suddenly losing it. She grabbed her phone and flung it at the wall. She snatched pillows and blankets and stuffed animals and launched them in different directions as hard as she could. She then stood up and kicked a box that sat by the end of her bed, nearly sending it flying across the room. "FUCK!" She shouted angrily, and punched the wall repeatedly. After seven punches, she noticed her hand bleeding, and stopped to examine it. It was turning purple.

She looked at the wall, realizing she'd left a hole.

"Fucking fantastic," she muttered. "I'm done. I'm running away. I'm going to live with Dinah." She grabbed her phone, car keys, and a bottle of water.

Dinah lived in Texas, but that didn't bother her. Sure, it'd be a long drive, but she'd have time to think and calm down.

Camila went out to her car and opened the door, sitting down in the driver seat. She started the car, backed out of the driveway, and drove off, never planning on returning to the city she grew up in again.
