A.N.: Sorry if the first two chapters are short. I'm not really sure if they could even be called chapters. Probably parts or something. Haha. I swear, as the chapters go along, it would get longer. ;) -K

“Bruce!” One of the cable car operators yelled.

“Yeah?” Bruce answered.

We were already in front of the line. Bruce was the one in charge of the tickets and the passengers, another guy was in charge of the cable cars and another one was in the control booth.

“I need a single here!” The cable car dude answered.

“Single passenger?” Bruce pointed to Josh.

“No, man. She is.” Josh said, pointing to me.”

“Come here, miss.”

Bruce opened the gate for me, and pointed to cable car dude.

“Go straight over there to Jeff.”

“Sure. Thanks.” I answered and walked up to Jeff.

Jeff, a.k.a. cable car dude, motioned to the open seat and I nodded, sliding in. The cable car moved and I held tighter to my board.

“Hi!” My seat mate greeted.

“Hi there!” I answered, smiling at him.

“I’m Scott Ferris. You are?”

“Kate. Kate Jones.”

“So, what brings Kate to Lake Tahoe?”

“Vacation with friends. How ‘bout you Scott?”

“A couple of friends told me this is a good place to board, so, here I am. Also on vacation with a friend.”

“I see.”

“Where are you from?”

“Norfolk, Virginia. You?”

“Seriously?”

“Well, yeah. Why?”

“I’m from Norfolk as well. Why don’t I see you around?”

“Home body. I don’t go out other than work, the grocery, and rare trips to the pub. So… Yep.”

“I see…”

“Yep.”

We easily engaged into conversation, laughing at the most random thoughts, and listening intently to each other when we talk about each other. He was cool and fun. During the 10-minute ride, we learned so much about each other and easily clicked. We got down at the other end of the ski-lift and walked towards some benches.

“I thought you were boarding down?” Scott asked.

“Yeah. But I figured I’ll wait for my friends.” I answered.

“Can I join your group? It isn’t any fun boarding alone.”

“Yeah! Sure! That’d be nice.”

We went on talking about really random stuff. We really do click. Bigtime!

Around 15 minutes later, I saw my friends got down from their cable cars. They walked over to Scott and I.

“Finally! I thought you’ve fallen over somewhere in the middle!” I exclaimed, laughing.

“Ha. Ha. Very funny.” Allie said sarcastically.

Scott cleared his throat, reminding me about him.

“Guys, this is Scott Ferris, by the way. I got seated with him at the lift. He’s from Norfolk, too!” I introduced.

A chorus of “Hey’s” filled the place.

“Scottie, this is Nikki Smythe, Allie Burton, Zayn Malik and Josh Hutcherson.” I continued.

After two minutes of small talk, they decided it was time to go down the hill. Nikki and Allie went down first, followed by Josh and Zayn.

“Hey.” Scott called before we started.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“Race you there. Loser buys hot chocolate.” He winked.

Who am I to pass on an offer of potentially free hot chocolate?

“Deal.” I answered.

“3…” He started counting.

“2…” I continued.

“1…”

“Go!”
