It’s been days since my wreck of a birthday party. I still remember passing out and waking up on the drive to the airport. Apparently, me getting drunk wasn’t planned. What they planned on was going back to Norfolk early in the morning the next day. I wasn’t even able to apologize to Grant for the way I acted. Nor was I able to get their numbers and potentially meet up again when they go back home.
It’s the day before New Year, and here I am at the grocery for some last minute shopping. I’m not sure why I bothered though. Considering my friends abandoned me for New Years Eve. Allie flew to Italy with Josh while Zayn brought Nikki back to his home in Bradford, England.
“Just shoot for the stars. If it feels right then aim for my heart…”
I sang to myself as I walked down the liquor aisle. Ever since the party, I can’t seem to get that song out of my head. I picked up a bottle of apple cider. I inspected it, thus I stopped singing.
“If you feel like it, take me away and make it okay. I swear I’ll behave.” A voice continued my song as soon as I stopped.
“Fancy running into you here.” He whispered, making my ear tingle with his warm breath.
Slowly, I placed the bottle back on the wine rack and turned around.
“Hey, babe.” Grant smiled down at me, our faces were really close.
“Hey, Grant.” I stuttered a bit, but was able to stay composed. “I… Uhh… I’m sorry for what happened at the party. I was… Uh… A little drunk?”
“A little?”
“Fine. I was buzzed.”
“It’s okay. I was too. Anyway, how’ve you been? What have you been up to?”
“I’m good. Doing a last minute grocery shopping for a new year’s feast for one. Other than that, nothing much. You?”
“I’m good. But, wait, for one? Why? Where are Allie and Nikki?”
“They flew to Narnia or somewhere for new year’s eve. But it cool. More food for me.”
“What? You’re all alone for new year’s eve?”
“Again, yes.”
“That isn’t any fun, you know?”
I didn’t know how to react to that so I just shrugged. He stepped backwards, giving us more distance, then looked at me worriedly.
“Why don’t you spend new year’s eve with Scott, Parker and I?” He asked.
“Parker?” I answered with a question.
“She’s my dog.”
“Oh…”
“So… What do you think?”
“I don’t know…”
“Come on! Even just for dinner. It’s that, or Scott, Parker and I would come over to your place.”
“But…”
“Yes or no?”
“Or?”
“Not an option.”
“Fine! But just for dinner.”
Grant smiled widely, grabbed my hand and dragged me away.
“Hey, how ‘bout my stuff?” I asked.
“You won’t need that anymore. Scott’s cooking.” He just smiled at me as he dragged me out of the grocery store. “So, where are you parked?”
