I opened my eyes to see leaf foliage above me. I heard yelling in the background as I sat up. Everything sounded far away, like there was a wall blocking my hearing. I looked down and saw the collar that had controlled me for so long. I heard my name being called but I couldn't tell from where it was coming from.
"Jessica!" a voice called, sounding close but still faint. I stood up on shaky legs, supporting my weight with a nearby tree trunk.
"You won't escape me." Katelyn's voice whispered in my ear.
I woke up from my troubled sleep in a burst, managing to fall off the artificial branch I had been sleeping on. I felt my neck finding the collar still around it. I sighed heavily.
"Just a dream." I whispered as I jumped down to the ground. Yea, they had given me m voice back. Actually just a few days ago too. I walked through the fake forest that was in my "room", and soon found myself walking on the gray carpet that marked where the bedroom part of the big room started and ended.
I slipped out of my pajamas and into a pair of bleached cut off shorts and a cami. I put my hair up in a messy bun and grabbed my laptop from off my bed. I headed for the door that would take me out into the hallway and pushed it open, walking up the hallway towards the mess hall. A buffet was always set out for whomever wanted something to eat.
I grabbed myself an apple and then walked out of the mess hall. My bare feet made no noise on the tiled hallway floor as I made my way towards the little garden I made a habit to go to and spend my days in. I knew my free days of sitting in the garden, playing on my computer or reading a book would soon end, but I kept my spirits up and didn't think too much about what would happen when they did.
After putting my laptop on the ground under an apple tree, I skipped around the garden to stretch my legs. As I came around a bend I stopped in my tracks. A black hawk was standing in the middle of the path. I kneeled down and looked at it confused. No hawks came in here very often. Or come down to the ground.
"Come here bird." I said to it just for fun. It took three little hops and stopped in front of me. My eyes widened at it.
"I didn't expect you to actually come." I said in an even tone. I carefully raised my hand to its back and touched its feathers. It didn't move. I kept my eye on its sharp beak as I stroked it from his neck down its back.
"What are you doing down here. You shouldn't want to be down here." I said out loud, speaking to the animal as if to keep myself sane.
It fluttered its wings slightly as if to answer and that's when I noticed something attached to it left leg. I held out my arm and clicked my tongue to see if it would climb onto it. As it dug its claws into my bare arm, I winced and held back a gasp of pain. It felt like six knives were driving into my arm.
Blood trickled from its powerful claws as I grabbed the rolled up piece of paper and started walking towards where I had left my apple and laptop. I sat down and let the hawk down onto the ground and winced again as I looked at my arm. Six round bullet-like holes were bleeding on my arm.
I watched as inside of the holes filled up with muscle sinew and the holes closed up like nothing had happened. I wiped away the blood on the grass and opened up the rolled up piece of paper.
"Jessica,
If your reading this, then know that we are coming.
Your rescue isn't too far off and we hope you are still alive
and well. Please write back and attach the note to Midnight Shadow.
He knows where to go and we will communicate to you through him.
Sincerely,
Josiah and Stuart"
My eyes filled with tears as the small flame of hope that had been threatening to go out inside me, flared up to the surface. I grabbed my laptop and typed up a note in a code that Stuart and I had come up with whenever we passed notes during class and printed it off, happy that the laptop had its own printer built into it. I ripped off the excess paper and rolled it up.
I then tied the note to Midnight Shadows leg and let him hop onto my arm again. I stood up and let Midnight Shadow walk onto the side of my hand. I flung my arm up and he took off up into the trees.
I watched him fly off over the roof and disappear into the clouds.
"There is still hope." I said to myself as I sat back down and continued to crack the codes of the firewalls that kept me from the things I most needed to get word to the Boys.
In the last few days I had managed to break down 6 firewalls and 5 protections. I've even managed to change what they see me doing so I can work without worry.
2 firewalls down, 3 to go. I thought to myself as I typed away at the lines of codes.

Sorry this chapter might be a little short but I didn't know how to continue it. So on Friday I will be updating this again and you will read on the boys side. I think I might start switching this back and forth between P.O.V.'S until the I get to somewhere I want to stop. Comment below if you agree or disagree with this!!
