Laura

My eyes widened in shock at the sight before me, this picture, how could he have gotten it? He had never been to my house once aside from when he dropped me off that one day but that's all. So what could possibly be his explanation for this?

I was so young in the picture, the memory coming to mind of that special day. Though the current circumstances were pretty meek, I couldn't help the small smile that grew on my face as I reminisced of the day this picture, the memory coming back to me like a dream.

'It was the day of my fifth birthday and I was driving to my grandma's house for a small celebration in honor of my special day. My mom and dad had been continuously been telling me that soon I'd have to get a job and move out of the house and if I remember correctly I started crying at that because I never wanted to leave my parent's sides.

After hours spent with family, friends, and other loved ones my cousin Jeannette and I decided to go outside to play hide and seek in my grandmother's wide land area. She had over ten acres of open farmland not too far south of behind her quite big farmhouse. I had always loved playing there, there were so many places to run and hide.

As Jeannette and I began our game I was hiding, I was giggling and running through the wide farmland before coming across the small area of forestry my grandmother also owned, smirking to myself think I would hide better there. I could hear the faint sound of Jeannette screaming out the numbers to twenty before shouting, "ready or not, here I come!"

I let out a small squeal knowing it wouldn't be too long before she'd find me, she had always been the best seeker out of the two of us.

I had been hiding in a small crevice of a large oak tree, that my body had perfectly fit into. This would probably have to be my favorite hiding spot as of that moment.

Suddenly I heard the sound of heavy breathing and I giggled, knowing it was Jeannette, probably getting tired of searching for me. I heard footsteps closing in and the grin on my face just grew wider. The footsteps had stopped just on the opposite side of the tree I was hiding in as I took in a deep breath before holding it in, in fear and excitement.

Then just seconds later, I felt two strong arms grab my shoulders pulling me up to their height as they screamed, "Gotcha!" I giggled with my eyes closed at Jeannette's funny change in voice before opening my eyes to be greeted by a pair of hazel colored ones. Weird, Jeannette's eyes' are a deep blue color. That's when my child self took in the details of the person's face. It was a boy, with tan skin, a sharp jaw, jet black hair that was slicked up into a quiff and darling smile that would make any teenage girl swoon.

"Who are you?" I asked curiously but not fearfully, I had always been bold and daring as a child standing up to anyone in my way.

The man chuckled and placed me back on my feet before kneeling before me. His gaze not leaving mine as he keeps the small smile on his face, "I'm Zayn, and you must be the darling Laura, am I correct?" He asks as I giggle nod at the same time. "I was wandering down your grandmother's fields when I came across you and your cousin." He said with a genuine smile before reaching into his coat pocket and pulling out a small black velvety textured box. "I heard it was your birthday today, now is this true?" He asks again as I smile and nod rapidly my eyes not leaving the box the man before me was holding, I mean hey, I'm a five year old girl, my life revolved around gifts.
