"Go on, Shadow," I said.

"Wait, why is taking us down the street, when yours and Nath's places are up street?"

"Gen, if I've learnt anything from this dog, it's not to question him."

Then, Gen realized something and came to a stop. "He's bringing us to Jake's."

"Ohhh God," I said, stopping as well, only to have Shadow barking at us again.

"Oi!" Gen shouted as I sprinted toward the scene; Jake and Nathan were fighting, I don't know what for, but knowing Jake, this fighting could really injure Nathan. And my brothers and I were a few of the only ones who could beat Jake.

I pulled Jake by the back of his shirt and punched him in the face, the chest and stomach.

"Why?!" I yelled at him. "What have I done to you?!"

"You left me," he said.

"You cheated on me!" I yelled back.

"Elle--" I heard Nathan start and Genevieve stop him.

"And you're taking it out on Nathan, why?"

"Because he has the one I love."

"But we aren't together! Even though I wish I was. And if you really did love me, you'd be happy for me if I was happy with someone else."

"Eleanor, I'm sor--"

"I don't wanna hear those words from you ever again. Heck, I don't wanna hear anything from you ever again."

"I'm sorry about Jake," I said. I had brought Nathan back to his house, explained to his mom and hoped she didn't hate me.

"It's okay," Nathan said as I took an ice pack from his mom.

"And you pulled him off Nathan?"

"Yeah, our families were pretty close. He and my older brother taught me to fight, so I know his weakness. But are you alright?" I asked turning back to Nathan, icing his bruised eye.

"I'm fine, really," he grinned, placing his hand on mine.

"Looks like you've got your own Personal Soldier," his mom teased.

"Mom, that is terrible," Nathan chuckled.

I stayed at Nathan's with Shadow for another half hour until I got a text from Evan.

"Elle, where the hell are you?? For some reason no one's listening to me shouting like you."

"I'm at Nath's. He had an encounter with Jake. I'll tell you more when I get home. I'll be off asap."

"Hey, I gotta go," I told Nathan.

"I'll go with you."

"No, it's alright."

"Nah, nah, I'll pick up Jess on the way. Mom, I'm off to the Turners!"

"Alright, bye Eleanor." His mom said.

"Bye, Karen," I smiled and left with Nathan.

"But we aren't together. Even though I wish I was." Nathan quoted me and I started to blush when he put his arm over my shoulder.

"You know you could've just said so."

"Fine," I said, stopping my steps. "I'll tell you now. I love you, Nathan."

He took one step closer, pushing a loose strand of hair behind my ear and placed a hand on my cheek. "I love you, too." He said and leaned in to kiss me; this time, Shadow was completely silent.

Everything in that moment was perfect. Nathan had officially asked me to be his girlfriend, to which I agreed. But then I remembered what Max told me about Shadow's 'mission'. I looked down to Shadow who was walking behind us instead of between us like he usually would.

"But I don't wanna say goodbye," I thought aloud.

"Wha-- Elle, are you okay?" Nathan asked when a tear rolled down my cheek and I told him what Max told me.
