It turns out werewolf men are as stubborn as ordinary men; it took him at least five minutes to make up his mind and come after us. By that point I could see the end of the forest so really didn't need him. I ignored him when he did turn up as I couldn't help thinking about Jean Luke and the fact that he was back in the ground. Even though I knew he was already dead I still felt kind of sorry to see him go; although if he had never turned up at the morgue I'd be safe in bed by now fast asleep. Shaking myself I figured that it was time I asked about last night.
"Luke what exactly did happened when I disappeared?"
Luke continued to frown at my wolf then quickly switched his look to me as he looked like he was going to comment then changed his mind. Gesturing forward he started telling me what exactly I'd missed when I did my vanishing act.
"While I was checking the grounding to ensure that my father could be re-buried, a wolf that was not of our clan came onto the grounds and attacked my uncle. When we realised that there was an intruder the pack came to our leaders' assistance. The trespasser was of course defeated although he did manage to escape before we could determine his identity. It was only after, that we realised you had been taken. Whoever it was planned the attack on my uncle as a distraction so they could take you. We did not expect to find you alive."
What a thing to tell me, such a cheerful thought.
"When we discovered your disappearance the pack members were sent to look for you, while Grim, myself, and uncle Docran saw to my father's internment. His body is once more at rest. Grim has placed an enchantment over the grave site to ensure that this does not happen again. It was after the burial that Grim managed to locate you here within our own territory. We were most surprised by your appearance here, as you were not on the grounds when you first disappeared. Where exactly were you?"
This of course was news to me as I had no memory of being anywhere else other than the forest. Thinking back to when I first woke up I had a vague recollection of darkness and a voice chanting, though for the life of me I couldn't remember what the voice said. Shaking off the sudden shiver I got, I waited till we reached the forests edge before replying.
"The only thing I remember is seeing two huge wolves fighting on your uncle's driveway and then some guy grabbing me and for god knows what reason chloroforming me. The next thing I knew I was flat on my back in the middle of nowhere with a killer case of headache and nausea. If I was somewhere else in-between don't look at me to tell you, because I'm drawing a blank."
I looked round, as for the life of me I couldn't see anything other than forest, forest, and more forest. It finally hit me that I wasn't at the edge of the forest but simply what looked like a large clearing. I couldn't help but close my eyes I could feel the day catching up with me all at once. Trying to fight the urge to simply give up and sit down where I stood, the craziest thought popped into my head; my cat Jezebel would be wondering where I was because when I come home I feed her breakfast and let her out for the day. The fact that the only person who would know that I was missing was a cat was extremely pathetic, I so need to get a social life after this insane day is over. Deciding that enough was enough I turned back to Luke and spoke up.
"If this is where we were headed, I am extremely disappointed. Please tell me that I don't have to walk miles more to get out of this godforsaken wood because my feet have just about had it."
I glanced at Luke when I realised he hadn't answered, I was about to speak again when I heard the strangest chopping sound. At first I couldn't believe my eyes when a helicopter flew into the clearing and started to land on the far side. Not believing my luck, I waited for Luke to tell me it was a mirage. I watched as Luke made his way to the chopper, it only took me seconds to get in gear and follow. Trying to stand up to the sheer wind coming off the blade it was a few seconds before I saw that there was a woman in the pilots' seat on her own. From what I could tell she looked to be about my age, slim with the same white blonde hair as Luke. Glancing over at Luke as he opened the door I was just about to get in when I remembered Hero; I realised that she had followed me to the chopper even with the blades still going. I knew that I couldn't just leave her there so I looked over at Luke. Seeing what I wanted he started to speak then stopped; just shaking his head he bent and grabbed her, heaving her into the chopper without a word. Climbing in without speaking, I was just glad to be getting out of there.
