I didn't get my letter until the end of the day but I was thinking that it was a blessing in some way. My day had been terrible, especially since I had to stay until 4:30, and it was able to cheer me up quite a bit. But, it wasn't enough to keep me from the edge of tears.
I pushed through a group of jocks with my head down, making my way out to my car. My phone buzzed and I groaned, stepping to the side to check it.
I huffed, shoving my phone back into my pocket. How did he even know that I was staying late? Just as he said, Atticus was leaning against my car.
"Can we do this another time, please?" I asked, voice cracking
He titled my chin up and frowned, seeing the tears sliding freely down my cheeks.
"What happened?" Atticus asked
"Nothing that concerns you." I shook my head
"Give me the keys. You're not driving in this state. I'll drive you home and then walk to a friend's house down the road." Atticus instructed
I didn't feel like fighting so I handed him the keys before getting in the passenger seat. There was no reasonable explanation as to why Atticus decided to be nice. That wasn't in character for him from what is said about him and how he typically acts. It didn't take long for us to reach my place and I muttered a quick thank you before running inside. I hurried up to my room, locking the door behind me as I fell to the floor.
