"Atticus, Jesy! Lunch!" Mom called
I shot Atticus a look before running out of my room. I went as fast as I could without falling down the steps in order to beat Atticus to the kitchen. Mom had gotten used to Atticus coming over. She even invited him over a couple of times. Mom seemed to think he was good for me. We've had a couple of conversations of Atticus becoming more than a friend.
Mom handed me my plate and I stuck out my tongue at Atticus. I had won our little race. I went and sat beside Lacy, who was patiently waiting for the rest of us. Sundays were the days that we made sure that every meal was eaten together. Atticus, mom, and dad had come out one after the other. We started eating and talking. The whole thing just felt right.
"How's Jack, Lacy?" I asked
"I'm so done with him." Lacy groaned
"What, why?" Atticus questioned
"He's weird. He jokes around about farts with his friends." Lacy cringed
I laughed, almost choking on my food. Atticus and dad had spit out their drinks while mom just shook her head. That was so unexpected.
"I guess we know why you didn't answer the phone or the knock."
I looked up to see Scott and Leah. Really? A week later they decide to come check things out.
"But, we still don't know why you guys are still here." Atticus glared
"We're Jesy's real friends." Leah spat
"That's a lie. I'm the one who stayed the whole day with her after I realized that she wasn't okay. I blew up her phone when she didn't go to school. I've stuck by her side every day to make sure that she's alright. You two have done nothing but make her feel worse. I bet you didn't even realize that she was upset!" Atticus ranted
"Jesy, tell him that he can't speak to us this way!" Scott exclaimed
"Atticus." I started, noticing their triumphant faces. "Thank you."
Their faces dropped immediately. They were obviously shocked.
"It's time that you two left. We were having a lovely lunch before you two got here." Dad spoke up
"Yeah, jerks." Lacy sneered
Scott and Leah walked out with their heads hung. They knew that they messed up if even my dad was kicking them out and Lacy hated them.
Everything went back to normal after that.
