I wanted to smile and frown at the letter that I had received. I loved reading the little snippets of his life that he told me and his opinions but I don't know why he'd think that I'd run from him.
"Jesy-bear!"
"Scotty!" I exclaimed, turning to hug my best friend
I groaned as he shoved my face into his armpit. I pushed against his chest until he released me. Scott wore deodorant but I still didn't want to be trapped in there.
"How's Valarie?" I asked, smiled
"She's doing really well in more than one sense." Scott winked
"Gross." I cringed, slapping his arm
He chuckled, walking into Mr. J's class with me. Thankfully, that meant that Atticus couldn't sit next to me again if he decided to make an appearance.
"Jesy, Scott." Mr. J acknowledged
"Hey, Mr. J." We replied simultaneously
We took our seats and I began to read. Scott leaned back and pulled out his phone; most likely so he could text Valarie. They really were an adorable couple and I couldn't help but envy what they had.
"You're in my seat." A gruff voice spat
I looked up to see Atticus glaring at Scott. Scott barely looked up to acknowledge that Atticus was standing there. After all, that has always been Scott's seat and Atticus would've known had he decided to come before yesterday.
"Move." Atticus said lowly
"This has always been my seat, Brower. Please, go somewhere else." Scott replied calmly
"You're friends always this rude, darling?" Atticus asked, turning to me
"Are you always this much of an ass?" I responded, smiling sweetly
Atticus chuckled before walking to find a different seat. He wasn't too far from where I sat so I still had a clear view of him. Which meant that Atticus could also see me. I'm more worried about that.
"What's his issue?" Scott whispered
"Sat there yesterday cause he finally decided to show. Apparently thinks that makes it his." I rolled my eyes
Scott huffed, shooting a glare at Atticus. Scott never liked him much so it was expected that Scott would get protective after hearing that Atticus was anywhere near me. I placed a hand on his shoulder and he turned back to him. His body was still tense but at least he wasn't glaring at Atticus anymore.
"Just ignore him." I retorted
When the period ended, I went to my locker to grab the most recent letter. I slid it into the pocket of my folder before heading to study hall. Scott and Leah were already waiting for me at our table. I could tell that Scott was ranting about Atticus and his actions during English.
"So, guess who got another letter?" I interrupted
"Did you bring it?" Leah asked, excited
I nodded, pulling myself onto the chair. I set down my things before pulling the envelope out from my folder. I handed it to Leah's awaiting hands and waited patiently for the both of them to read it.
"Aw, how cute." Leah smiled
"You're apparently a heart stealer." Scott teased
I could feel my face heat up in a blush that would leave my cheeks a scarlet color. I still didn't know how I could've stolen a heart from somebody that I don't even know. Unless, of course, the mystery writer is closer than I thought but it was unlikely.
"I just can't figure out why he thinks that I'd run from him." I sighed
"Jesy, you could have any guy you please. That's going to make any guy a bit insecure about his chances with you." Leah reasoned
"But, I don't want just any guy. I want him." I frowned
"Then, you'll just have to wait." Scott responded, flicking my head
I pouted, swatting at him. As if I hadn't already known that. This mystery writer had all the cards and all the power. It was up to him when we met and I was willing to wait for him.
"Oh, a letter. Who's it from, darling?"
"What's it to you, Atticus?" I frowned
"Just curious as to who's after your heart." Atticus shrugged
"Who says it's that kind of letter?" I scoffed
"Nobody writes letters anymore unless they're trying to win someone over." Atticus stated
"Is that so?" I mused
"Absolutely." Atticus hummed
"Still not your business." I retorted
I grabbed my books and left, making sure to scoot around Atticus. Just like every other day, I went to my locker and switched my books out in time for the bell to ring.
