Chapter Six

The forest cover is so beautiful. The green and brown of the trees go perfectly with the pale, green, knee-high grass. I realize how many kids were on the bus. There's about fifty or sixty kids about the ages ten to fifteen. There are a few younger and a few older. I look around and I realize we're all in an open field with a few tiny bushes here-and-there.

"It's beautiful", I hear someone say. I can't disagree with them, either. It is beautiful. The sun is shining through some of the trees; it is the kind of place you could see in a fairytale.

The creepy driver steps off of the bus and waves his arm around to get everybody's attention. The whole camp turns towards him. "Welcome new campers", he says. The driver's face is long and skinny. His black hair is almost a 1960s bowl cut, but it's trimmed down a little. His eyes make his face even more creepy. They are wide and black . "This is as far as the bus goes, so I will lead you to the camp".

Jessie takes a deep breath and follows the bus driver into the forest. The rest of the camp moves after her. After Jessie is almost into the forest (which is about thirty feet away), I realize I'm just standing there along with Michael and Ashton. "Guys, come on", I say encouragingly. I motion them over and start to jog towards Jessie. The boys are right behind me. We have to dodge people taller than us and some shorter. I see Jessie about ten feet away. I dodge more campers and finally catch up with Jessie. The boys are still trying to catch up with me. "Jessie", I ask, "Where are we going?"

Jessie keeps moving and doesn't move her head, "I don't know, Dawn. It looks like we're going to the forest". I look ahead and we're about to go through vines that spread from tree to tree like a curtain. We are about fifteen feet away from the vine-curtain when, Michael and Ashton catch up with us.

"God, Dawn",Michael out of breath, "You're really fast".

"Yeah I know. I'm just not fast for long".

All four of us are walking towards the curtain of vines and pass through after the bus driver. The inside is beautiful. The trees let in a perfect amount of light. I hear someone gasp and another comment on the scenery. Tall pine trees and bushes cover the sky and bushes cover the ground except for a pathway. There is moss on some trees and vines running up others. To the left, there is a creek that glitters like a diamond. Jessie , Michael, Ashton and I keep walking and as we get deeper into the forest, the bus driver starts to speak. He stops walking and turns around, "Campers," he says with a stern voice, "This is where you'll matter most."

I look at my newly found friends with confusion, I don't see how we could matter most in the forest. Maybe this is why my mom wouldn't tell me what camp was. She thought it would make me not to go if I knew it was about the forest and environment. But, why would she say it was for my own good and that it would help me? "Um, sir?", I ask

He looks at me like I'm an idiot, "What?" He sighs.

"This is the forest", I state. I still find it weird that my mom would send me to an environment camp. That's kind of stupid. She knows I would rather read than learn about the trees and plants at some camp for three weeks. Wait, three weeks? None of this fits together well. I'm confused. I decide to think about all of this later.

The man looks at me with his piercing black eyes, "Yes; I know". He snaps his fingers and I start to feel tingly. My feet don't feel the ground anymore. Then I realize, my feet shouldn't feel the ground.

I'm floating.
