David takes me to a white room. I can’t really describe it in any way except for the fact that it is big, white and square with a big long window that is mirrored. So, apparently the people on the other side can see me but, I can’t see them; according to David.
“David?”, I ask, “Why are we in here?”
He looks at me with a sly smirk, “To train, of course. About five minutes after I teach you how to use your scythe, I’ll give the people the ‘signal’ and they’ll put you in a situation where you’ll need to defend yourself with your weapon. Got it?”
“I guess so.”
David nods and grabs his sword from his sheath. He says a few magic words and smoke starts to surround him. After about ten seconds, the smoke clears and his sword is, a scythe.
I stare in awe at the weapon transformation.
My scythe is stood up on the right of me while I hold the stem near the middle. I grab it higher and swing it so that I can grab the stem with both hands.
My left hand is placed near the bottom of the scythe and my right hand near the top. I pull my right arm back and push it forward with force whilst twisting my back for more speed and progression.
I think that might’ve been a little too much speed and progression because, I accidently spin around and fall on my back.
David looks at me and bites his lip. He extends his arm and helps me up, “Okay, Dawn. You need to hold the scythe differently. You’re holding it with your arms outstretched. You need to bend your arm in a right angle and hold it near the middle to keep it balanced.”
I nod my head and do as he says. I scoot my hands a little towards the blade.
David instructs me to swing my arms back and twist my back as minimal as possible. I find it easier to swing if my right hand is turned upside down. I swing with the same instructions as David told me before.
This time, it swings with precision and I hear a swoosh noise as I swing. I believe that was perfect because David nods and tells me that I did great. He then asks me to do it a few more times. So, I do.
Swoosh. Swing. Swish. Those are the sounds my scythe makes as it swings through the air.
David tells me to aim at his scythe. He stands it blade side up and gives me a spot to aim and hit.
“Dawn, If you hit my scythe in this sopot with the perfect swing and angle, then it’ll break in half. If not, then it won’t leave a scratch. Understand?”
I nod my head and prepare to swing. My right hand thrusts forward and I hear a shattering sound.
David’s scythe; it broke.
I feel my stomach jump. I actually broke it. That must mean that the scythe is actually my weapon.
It seems as if everything went in slow motion. My scythe making the impact and seeing his split in two. I could feel my weapon traveling through the air like the air was made out of Jell-o.
I bite my lip and look David in the eye.
He nods slowly, “You did it! You actually did it! I’m going to go to the observatory room to watch you defend with your scythe and knock those dummies to shreds. I’ll see you on the other side, Dawn.” He solutes with two fingers and walks into the observatory room.
I stare blankly at him for a few seconds as he walks away into the other room. The, I hear something behind me. Like someone running but, with metal shoes. Clank clank. I turn around and about five feet away from me is a six foot tall man with armour, lots of armour. He looks like a medieval knight. But he has a huge sword. It’s probably about four feet long. With a swing of his long arms, he could easily chop me in half.
I immediately get my scythe in position and swing at the man. He then bursts into crystals. It’s probably just a battle simulation. As soon as all of the crystals fall to the floor, they disappear and two identical knights come at me but at a slightly faster speed. I swing and end up clearing them both in one swing. I think I’m pretty good at this.
Then as those two soldiers disintegrate, three come to me at twice the speed they were before. This time, I have to swing twice.
I have a feeling this is going to get hard.
I keep swinging and swinging until I get about seven or eight knights in shining armour surrounding me, ready to dice me to pieces with their swords of terror. I’ve already gotten a few cuts from them but, the cuts don’t show up. I only felt the pain of it for a minute. Then, it went away.
Simultaneously, all eight of the knight raise their swords ready to impale me. I stumble backwards and fall on my back with my scythe across my chest. I sit up and stand on my knees. And prepare to swing. Then, the first knight swings his sword and slices my back. I cringe at the pain but I swing my scythe anyway. All of the knights start to hit me. Tears well up in my eyes because it really does feel as if you’re getting sliced in half and diced to pieces.
It hurts.
My legs feel like i have a thousand needles stuck in them and I’m running across broken glass. I try and stand up but the knights keep swinging. My hands are shaky but, I work through the pain. I use my jelly legs to support my flimsy body and I take the scythe and swing.
One knight. Gone.
The other one. Gone
One by one i swing at the knights of terror as they swing their swords at me.
At last, I finish off the last one and I drop to my knees and fall over in defeat. My arms and legs feel numb. They should’ve known I probably couldn’t take it.
I have tears streaming down my face. I’m not sobbing, they just roll out of my tear ducts. My breathing is quick and rapid.
David rushes in with a look of concern on his face, “Are you alright?” he asks.
My vision starts to turn blurry but, I nod slowly. Black starts to cloud around David’s face as he cranes over me and lifts me up.
The last thing I see is David saying some magic words and everything turning white around us. Then, I black out.
