Stevie had not seen Lindsey in a week, it worried her and every time she tried to call his house phone his mother would tell her that he was not home...which Stevie knew was a lie because his parents never let him go anywhere alone
She sat in her room, crying and journaling, writing about how scared she was. She had noticed changes in her body recently and they scared her. Of course she wasn't showing yet but she just didn't feel "normal". She sighed, looking out the window, eyes fixed on nothing in particular. People were outside, it was a pretty day, and they all looked so happy. She wished for a moment to have a fraction of that happiness back.
Her mother knocked softly on the door, bring a tray of soup in her room for lunch. "Tee, you need to eat something," setting the tray next to her bed
"I'm not hungry""You might not be but you have to eat for the baby." she told her. She sat down on her daughter's bed. "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing"
"You can talk to me. Your father and I not stand by all of your decisions but we stand by you, Stevie. We love you, baby girl."
Stevie began to cry harder and her mother held her. "Lindsey's avoiding me"
"I'm sure he's upset too. Yes the focus is mostly on you but we have to remember he has feelings too."
"I just want all of this to go away....""Honey...there's nothing that we can do now..."
"I just want Lindsey here to help me through this...I don't understand half of the things going on with my body and I'm scared of it!"
"You want Lindsey?" Her mother asked and Stevie nodded. "I'll call him for you but we can't tell you father.""He won't answer. I tried to call and his parents tell me he's not there."
"We can try."
"Please tell Mrs. Buckingham that I need him...""I will, sweetheart, be patient."
Barb left the room and Stevie tried to eat the soup her mother had brought up. She sat nervously watching the door for her mother to come back and tell her Lindsey was ready to see her. She missed him so much that it physically ached to be without him.
"He's not home honey, they sent him to be with his cousins for a few weeks," Barbara said softly as she sat next to Stevie on the bed"A few weeks?! I can't do that!" Stevie sobbed
"You need to be patient""I don't have that kind of time. I need him. We made this little baby together and..."
"Stephanie, you need to relax. Eat your soup and get some rest." Barbara got up and walked toward her bedroom door
"I need to collect my school work."
"I will ask Chris to do it for you."
"But mommy..."
"Yes, honey?"
"I'm lonely" Stevie confessed. "I feel like a social pariah."
"Invite Robin over," Barbara told her, "I know that she misses you."
"I just want Lindsey..." she sniffled, "Is there anyway I can talk to him?"
"She offered me the number to her sister's house where he's staying...""Call her and get it! Please!"
"Stevie, he's gone. Just leave him alone."
"No! He begged me to keep this baby and now he leaves? And if I did invite Robin, what would I say?" Barbara looked at her daughter sympathetically. "No one understand me outside of Lindsey and I just want him. Is that so terrible? Is that a crime to want to father of your child to talk to you?" Stevie broke down into sobs, covering her face with her hands.
"Okay-okay I'll get the number!" Barbara kissed her head as she left her, returning a few minutes later with a number
