As the months passed, Stevie grew used to her role at home. She was a doting mother and a wonderful partner to the two most important people in her life. While her mother cleaned up breakfast one morning, Stevie got to work folding the laundry. Six month old daughter, Sara, sat by playing with a soft toy while her mother put away her onesies and little pants. Stevie smiled, brushing a tiny curl back from the baby's forehead as Sara reached out to grab a shirt from Lindsey's stack of work clothes.

"You mischievous little thing!" She cooed, making the baby giggle. When the basket was empty, Stevie picked up her little girl and balanced her on her hip as she went back to the laundry room to start her last load.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Surely her mother would get it, she thought, returning to her task. The doorbell sounded once more and Stevie heard her mother call out for her to answer. Stevie hugged but quickly replaced her scowl with a smile as her baby daughter clapped her hands. "How about a little adventure to see who's at the door, huh Sara?"
The baby smiled happily, Stevie bouncing her on her hip as she kissed her head. Stevie immediately regretted opening the door as she was met with her ex, Adam.

"Adam? Can I help you?" Stevie adjusted the baby on her hip
"Hey..." Adam smiled, looking at the baby on Stevie's hip. "Who is this?"

Stevie rolled her eyes. "What are you doing here?" her voice showing all of her irritation.

"I came to talk."
"About what? I haven't seen or heard from you in over a year." She stated, unamused with his presence

"I heard you had a baby...why didn't you tell me that you were pregnant?"

"Because it wasn't your business."

"Come on, Stevie. She looks just like me."
"She looks just like her father, my boyfriend, Lindsey." Stevie was disgusted. How could he just barge into her life again and make wild accusations?

"Stevie, I'll step up, I'll be a good dad. You don't have to lie."
"I'm not lying, Adam. She has a father who adores her. A biological father." Stevie was losing her patience

"It's nothing to be ashamed of. I know you got a lot of crap at school about it, but I'm willing to take responsibility."
"It's not your place."

"If she's mine--"

"She's not yours! I'm telling you the truth. I know my dates, Adam and you don't fit. Lindsey and I were very committed and are still very committed."
"She's too perfect to be his child. You know that deep down she is mine. Now that I've seen her I won't give up," Adam said, reaching out to touch Sara

Stevie moved her away, "She doesn't like strangers."

"Hey...I'm your Daddy..."
"Adam, leave!" Stevie said, trying to shut the door but he held it in his grasp. He was stronger than her and she couldn't force it closed. Sara began to cry and Stevie was desperate. "Please...you're scaring her!"
"Mr. Rhodes I would highly suggest that you leave," Barbara appeared
Adam looked intimidated by the little woman but it didn't stop him from getting the last word. "I will come back for you- both of you." He pointed at Stevie and the baby then jogged off back to his car he had parked in the yard. Barbara rolled her eyes and shut the door.

"Well isn't he just a blast from the past" Barbara said and Stevie looked shaken. "Don't let him scare you."
"He thinks that Sara is his daughter..." Stevie was now holding her baby to her chest

"Lindsey is her father, whether that brute believe it or now. Adam can't take that away from anyone," Barbara kissed her daughter's head, "Our men will be home from work soon. I'll start dinner and watch Sara. You go take a bath and relax. Lindsey will never get a moments peace if he sees that you are upset."
"Are you sure? I still haven't finished the laundry and Sara needs a snack and--"
